Smokey RobinsonPure Smokey ... LP
Motown, 1974. Sealed ... $5.99
Excellent mid 70s work from Smokey, recorded right before his landmark Quiet Storm album, and in a smooth sophisticated style that showed that he was definitely on the right track after splitting from the Miracles! The sound here is totally great – a new level of sophistication for Robinson, and proof that he was one of the key folks who would take soul music to new levels in the 70s! The record includes the excellent "Virgin Man", a loping midtempo track that's not only a great stepper, but also a famous sample riff. Other tracks include "I Am I Am", "Fulfill Your Need", "Just Passing Through", "The Love Between Me & My Kids", and "It's Her Turn To Live". LP, Vinyl record album
(Reissue pressing. Cover has a cutout notch.)

✨✧ Smokey RobinsonSmokey's Family Robinson ... LP
Tamla, 1976. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Smokey's Family Robinson finds Smokey exploring rather than simply setting out to continue riding the waves made by Quiet Storm. There's bits of dancefloor funk, pared down keyboard soul, spacey jams and a sweet ballad or two – all with Smokey's soul strirring vocals in peak form. Titles include "When You Came", "Get Out Of Town", "So In Love", "Open", "Castles Made Of Sand" and more LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has ring and edge wear, light staining, and a name in marker on the back.)

Smokey RobinsonYes It's You Lady ... LP
Tamla, 1982. Near Mint- ... $4.99
A slightly more-grooving record than some of Smokey's others from the time – done in a style that rolls around in a mostly-midtempo mode. There's almost a gentle 80s groove approach at times, although some of the tunes on the set are definitely in that stone mellow love song style that was Smokey's biggest trademark of the time. Titles include "Are You Still Here", "Tell Me Tomorrow", "Yes It's You Lady", "The Only Game In Town", "International Baby", and "Merry Go Ride". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout notch and light wear.)

Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesAway We A Go Go ... LP
Tamla, 1966. Very Good+ ... $14.99
A key set in the second chapter of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – that time when the group moved from the mellow ballads that were their first early strength, into some dancefloor stormers that easily made them one of the most favored Motown acts of the time! Smokey definitely takes the "go go" in the title seriously – and comes up with some great grooves that feature plenty of his own lead vocals, including some lesser-known gems that we especially like. Backing by the group is great, too – and the overall sound is extremely sweet harmony soul, with a perfect Motown set of arrangements from the backing group – on titles that include "Can You Love A Poor Boy", "Baby Baby", "I'm The One You Need", "Save Me", "Oh Be My Love", and "Swept For You Baby". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original 2 globes pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear.)

Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesFour In Blue ... LP
Tamla, 1969. Near Mint- ... $11.99
Although Smokey and crew are pictured in the front in the usual staid Motown matching suits – their hipper garb on the back cover belies the nice direction they've taken with this album, which shows the band hitting a more heavy soul style that's touched by a lot of the grooviness going around at the time at Motown. The album includes a great version of the classic "California Soul", a nice spacey version of "Hey Jude", and lots of other nice ones like "My World Is Empty Without You", "Tomorrow Is Another Day", and "Dreams, Dreams". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear and some aging.)

Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesMake It Happen ... LP
Tamla, 1967. Very Good ... $11.99
A romping groover from Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – and a record that really has them punching things up, after starting out for Motown as a much more mellow harmony group! Robinson's crackling lead really makes the set sparkle – that warm, honest, earnest quality that Smokey hit strongly at this stage – still managing to inflect a deep sense of soul, while keeping things polished enough to match the rest of 60s Motown! The set features the "Tears Of A Clown", plus the excellent "Soulful Shack", one of a number of great "soul party" tunes from the late 60s – and other cuts include "Dancin's Alright", "You Must Be Love", "It's A Good Feeling", "Don't Think It's Me", and "My Love For You". LP, Vinyl record album
(Tamla stereo 2-globes pressing with deep groove. Cover has some wear with staining on the lower back cover with a partial split seam. Includes Tamla catalog inner.)

Tamla, 1968. Near Mint- ... $14.99
Smokey and the group do a great job on some lesser-known numbers – all presented with that wonderful warm polish that The Miracles brought to soul, a sound that's always great, even on a lesser-hit album like this! Titles include "Give Her Up", "Special Occasion", "Yester Love", "If You Can Want", "Just Losing You", "Much Better Off", and "You Only Build Me Up To Tear Me Down". LP, Vinyl record album
(Brown and yellow label stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has a cutout hole, yellowing from age, some wear, and a few small marks from tape removal.)

Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesTime Out ... LP
Tamla, 1969. Near Mint- ... $9.99
Kind of a mixed bag of numbers from Smokey and the group – who are clearly searching around here for a new sound that will take them into the 70s, working in a number of different modes – all of them still pretty nice, thanks to the always-great vocal talents of the group. Titles include "Doggone Right", "The Hurt Is Over", "You Neglect Me", "Abraham, Martin, & John", "The Composer", "For Once IN My Life", and "I'll Take You Any Way That You Come". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Includes the Tamla inner sleeve. Cover has light aging and a small corner cut.)
