Sid RaminBig Band Sound Of Sid Ramin ... LP
RCA, 1963. Very Good+ ... $2.99
A set that has Sid Ramin working with a large group, but getting a really tight sound out of them throughout – a mode that's more soundtrack-styled than any sort of jazz big band – but which still has lots of jazzy flourishes from the horns in the group! Arrangements are plenty playful throughout – like some of Ramin's great soundtrack scoring – and titles include "Nola", "In The Mood", "Never On Sunday", "Ruby", and "And The Angels Sing". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing with deep groove.)

✨✧ Sid Ramin & OrchestraNew Thresholds In Sound ... LP
RCA, 1963. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sid Ramin at his most dynamic – heard here on this sweet RCA session from the early 60s, in modes that really show the same kind of arrangements that Sid was doing for TV at the time! The feel of the record really lives up to the "new thresholds" title – as Ramin pushes the orchestra in all these colorful, vivid ways – yet still also while keeping things fluid, and a fair bit jazz at times – never letting the album just be one of those tricks for the hi-fi crowd, and still hanging on strongly to a musical mode! Tracks include "Strike Up The Band", "I Believe In You", "Bewitched", "Hernando's Hideaway", and "April In Paris". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Xavier CugatKing Plays Some Aces ... LP
RCA, 1958. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A set recorded by RCA in 1958 – featuring a few new numbers, plus a number of classics, redone by Cugie in a nice jazzy style that we like better than his earlier work! Sid Ramin did a few arrangements for the record – and titles include "Mambo No 5", "Baia", "Green Eyes", "Oye Negra", "Carioca", and "Cuban Mambo". LP, Vinyl record album
(Living Stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has a small split on the top seam, light surface wear, and aging.)

✨✧ VariousGreasy Mike Gets The Giggles – 14 Frantic Flippers Fraught With Frivolous Fun-Filled Frolics ... LP
Jazzman (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Weird and wild novelty numbers from the glory days of the 7" single – tunes that are mostly rockers, but which also show all the cool and unusual ways that folks were experimenting with new styles and studio modes, then putting the results on a two to three minute 45rpm chunk of vinyl – getting the gags and goofs out there in the years before social media and the internet! There's a wonderfully offbeat selection of cuts here – comedic intentions mixed with inventive instrumentation, odd arrangements, and hip production – on tracks that include "Ho Ho Rock & Roll" by Sid Ramin, "You Tickle Me Baby" by The Royal Jokers, "Your Wiggle & Your Giggle" by Lue Renny, "Breakin Up" by The Fabulous Continentals, "Hey Lulu" by Hank Marvin, "The Mad Scientist" by The Zanies, "Good For A Laugh" by The Paollos, "Lafin Gas" by Adolphus Bell & The All Starts, "The Giggler" by Pat & The Wildcats, "Scrub" by Jim Doval & The Gauchos, and "Laffin Beatnik" by Johnny Beeman. ✨✧ Gnawa Music Of MarrakeshNight Spirit Masters ... LP
Axiom/Zehra (UK), 1990. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the earthiest recordings made by Bill Laswell during his run of classic productions on Axiom Records – a set that's very faithful to the unique sound of the Gnawa musicians of Morocco, and which features no performance at all from Laswell! Sometimes, Bill would like to insert himself in the proceedings, or inflect the music with his own identity – but he stays nicely aside here, and allows the large ensemble to really do their thing – making incredible music through interplay between vocals and percussion, touched with a few local instruments as well – including oud, sintir, and darbouka! Often, the percussion is augmented by handclaps, which really brings a sense of urgency to the record as the songs build up – and titles include "Tramin", "Chabako", "Toura Toura Tour Kelilah", "Hamouda", "Said Fafy Drum Solo", "Jillala", and "Mimoun Mamrba". LP, Vinyl record album
