GorillazHumanz (2CD deluxe edition) ... CD
Parlophone, 2017. Used 2CD ... $6.99
A triumphant return for The Gorillaz – as improbably (impossibly!?) brilliant as ever! Much like the real life post-millennium culture we all inhabit, The Gorillaz exist in a world both virtual and physical – with artist and conceptualist Jamie Hewlett, singer/guiding force Damon Albarn, producer Twilite Tone and others providing a mood and aesthetic framework for an amazing roster of guest singers, rhymers and musicians on this one, who all really contribute a lot – especially to the lyricism and writing. Given the stylistically sprawling guests – both prominently billed and even more further behind the scenes – it's really impressive how well it holds together so cohesively from beginning-to-end. Way more than a cartoony supergroup, but you knew that already! Guests include Peven Everett, Mavis Staples, Danny Brown, Grace Jones, De La Soul and more, with an overall vibe Titles include "Ascension" with Vince Staples, "Strobelight" with Chicago indie soul legend in-the-making Peven Everett (and honestly one of the standout tracks, we're not just saying that out of hometown pride), "Momentz" with De La Soul, "Carnival" with Anthony Hamilton, "Let Me Out" with Mavis Staples & Pusha T, "Charger" with Grace Jones, "Submission" with Danny Brown & Keleta, "We Got The Power (Version 2:18:482) with Jehnny Beth (of Savages) and many more. 2CD deluxe edition includes a bonus CD with extra tracks – including "Halfway To A Halfway House" with Peven Everett, "Ticker Tape" with Carly Simon (!!!) & Kali Uchis and more. ✨✧ Curtis LundyAgainst All Odds ... CD
Justin Time, 1999. Used ... Out Of Stock
Incredible stuff – one of our favorite jazz albums of the past decade, and a real treasure that we always find ourselves going back to! This album was only Curtis Lundy's second as a leader – recorded after a 10 year hiatus, and featuring a real return to the brilliance of his early career. The soulful bassist is at the height of his powers here – writing and arranging with a depth that we never thought possible, crafting a record that shines with the best of the 70s soul jazz classics on Strata East or Black Jazz. He's got plenty of great help on the record, too – as players include Bobby Watson, Peven Everett, John Hicks, and Roy Hargrove – and best of all, sister Carmen sings vocals on three tracks, all of which are great, and stand as some of the finest soul jazz vocal numbers we've heard in ages! Titles include "Do I Ever Cross You Mind", "All Things Being Equal Are Not", "Sweet Audrey", "Blue Woman", "Groydology", and "Where'd It Go?" CD

✨✧ VariousAlex Attias Presents Lilly Good Party Vol 2 – A Selection Of Really Really Good Grooves ... LP
BBE (UK), 2020. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A really joyous collection of grooves selected by Alex Attias – work that's maybe even more uplifting than the first volume in this series – and we really liked that one a heck of a lot too! Most of the tracks are relatively contemporary – selected by Attias from the work of underground colleagues over the past few years – and they're put together in a way that's even more than the sum of their mighty parts – the kind of careful ear for a well-selected track list that reminds us of the sort of albums that made us first fall in love with the BBE label many years back! In a world of dark corners and uncertainty, this is a set that will help you find the way forward, and have a hell of a good time doing it – thanks to tracks that include "Gwotet (Alex Attias LillyGood Party edit)" by David Murray & The Gwo-Ka Masters with Pharoah Sanders, "Open Up Your Mind (Honeycomb voc mix)" by Universal Tongues feat Elle, "Star Child Going Home" by MJ Lallo, "Freedom Flight (Alex Attias LillyGood Party edit)" by Mausiki Scales, "Children Of The World (Ben Brophy edit)" by Elements Of Life feat Josh Milian, and "How Bad I Want Ya (GU peak tru time mix)" by Stacy Kidd with Peven Everett. ✨✧ VariousJoe Davis Presents Synthesis ... CD
KSR (Japan), 2001. Used ... Out Of Stock
Joe Davis is known to most for his untiring work in support of Brazilian grooves in the London scene – as Joe's journey's to Brazil in the 80s and early 90s helped start many club nights, the famous Far Out record label, and essential compilations like the Blue Brazil and Brazilica series. What most people know less, though, is that Joe's also had a hand in some important newer music of the past decade – some released on his own label Solaria, some supported in the wealth of other ways that Joe has at his disposal. This set features tracks compiled by Joe and Simone Serritella – a wealth of new music featuring some pretty darn hard to find tracks from import singles and out of print LPs. There's a total of 11 tunes in all – and titles include "Carnival Espirito" by Big Bossa, "Move On Up (Bugz Ppaque rmx)" by Marc De Clive Lowe, "Transcend Me" by Afronaught with Melissa Browne, "Sometimes" by Earthbound, "Percussive One" by Cuica, "Life In The Rain" by Quantic, "Watch Them Come (Jazzanova rmx)" by Men From The Nile with Peven Everett, "Nuphonix" by Viper Squad, and "Flesh" by Slow Supreme. Shelter, 2002. Used ... $11.99
One of the best compilations we've ever stocked by legendary DJ Gilles Peterson – a brilliant blend of old and new grooves, effortlessly stepping across different times, styles, and national boundaries! Gilles is one of the biggest influences on what we do here at Dusty Groove – and his work on this set is a perfect example of why we've always held him in such high regard over the years! The set's got a total of 18 tracks in all, mixed together, but not in a way that loses the integrity of the tunes – more just linked back to back in a way that will make your jaw drop with connections that you'd never expected in the music.
