✨✧ Mark-AlmondMark-Almond (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Blue Thumb/Varese, 1971. Used ... Out Of Stock
The fantastic debut of Mark Almond – not one guy, but the duo of guitarist Jon Mark and reedman Johnny Almond – both of whom had made their mark in a range of other modes on the UK scene before this set! Mark plays guitar – both classical and electric – and also sings the vocals – in a way that might make the set another singer/songwriter effort of the period, were it not for all the wonderful touches that Almond brings to the music – using a range of saxes, vibes, flute, and percussion – mixed with the organ and keyboards of Tommy Eyre, and the bass of Rodger Sutton – which creates this great sort of folk funk flow, almost making the album sound more like a Joe Boyd production on Island than you might expect! Titles include "The City", "The Ghetto", "Love", "Tramp & The Young Girl", and "Song For You". CD features bonus single versions of "The City" and "The Ghetto". CD

✨✧ Mark-AlmondMark-Almond II ... LP
Blue Thumb, 1972. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A great second set from guitarist Jon Mark and reedman Johnny Almond – both musicians who'd recorded great music in the 60s on their own, and also worked famously with John Mayall – but hit a really special vibe here of their own! Titles include "The Sausalito Bay Suite", which takes up most of side one – plus "Journey Through New England", "One Way Sunday", "Sunset", and "Ballad Of A Man". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Jon MarkSongs For A Friend ... LP
Columbia, 1975. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Wonderfully sensitive work from singer/songwriter Jon Mark – best known as half of the Mark-Almond band with Johnny Almond – but working here in a much more moody and contemplative mode! The backings on the album are often quite full, but kept to a slightly subdued quality – strings hiding somewhere in the background to swell up the darker corners of the tunes, as Mark's vocals slide breathily in the lead, with bits of piano, guitar, or keyboards taking some slight instrumental prominence. There's a gentle blend of sophisticated folk stylings here that reminds us a bit of Tim Hardin at times – particularly his first Columbia album – although Mark's a bit less fragile overall. Titles include "Joey", "Signal Hill", "The Bay", "Liars Of Love", "Alone With My Shadow", and "Old People's Homes". LP, Vinyl record album

Jacques Brel, Mort Shuman, Elly Stone, Joe MasiellJacques Brel Is Alive & Well & Living In Paris – Original Film Soundtrack ... LP
Atlantic, 1974. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $5.99
The film soundtrack version of this famous 60s musical, which was based around the sounds of Belgian singer Jacques Brel. The film version shares many similarities to the broadway one – translations by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman, vocals by Shuman and Elly Stone – but the overall sound is quite different, as the versions presented here are more subtle, less campy, possibly due to the freer range of expression allowed to the actors on a film soundstage. Plus, this version also includes a few of Brel's best songs that were left out of the original show – making for a total of 26 titles that include "The Bulls", "Sons Of", "The Desperate Ones", "Amsterdam", "The Statue", "Brussels", "Funeral Tango", "Bachelors Dance", "Carousel", and "Next". If you want Brel in English, this may well be the best way to get it – as nearly all other English language versions of his work (by Scott Walker, Marc Almond, and others) came from these translations. (Cover has light wear, cutout hole, and a small sticker mark.)

John MayallTurning Point ... LP
Polydor, 1969. Very Good- ... $2.99
An album that definitely lives up to its title – as the set is definitely a turning point in the career of John Mayall, and the debut of brand new lineup that helped move his music past a the straighter sound of American blues! There's still plenty of blues at the core – and great vocals and harmonica from the leader – but the lineup also features no drums at all, which gives very open space to freeplay between the acoustic guitar of Jon Mark, the bass of Steve Thompson, and the wicked work of Johnny Almond on tenor, alto, and flute! The jazzy elements that Almond brings to the music are wonderful – and really open up the sound, and showcase a whole new side of Mayall's talents too – as the group here play live at the Fillmore East, on titles that include "The Laws Must Change", "California", "I'm Gonna Fight For You JB", "Room To Move", and "Saw Mill Gulch Road". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red label pressing. Cover has edge wear, small splits, and is yellowed from age.)
