MPB4Bons Tempos, Hein?! ... LP
Philips (Brazil), 1979. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
A great 70s album from this excellent Brazilian harmony group! Their sound is a different from that of Quarteto Em Cy or Tamba Trio, and their singing is less filled with straight jazzy harmonies than it is some off-kilter vocal lines that weave together and challenge each other throughout the tracks – in a really beautiful way. While they're best known for their groundbreaking work from the 60's, this LP's a good batch of tracks from the 70's that still retains the feel of the group. Cuts include "Fantasia", "Angelica", "Nascente", and a cover of Caetano Veloso's "Tropicalia"! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original Brazilian pressing. Cover has some ring and edge wear, spotty aging, and is bent at the top right edge.)

✨✧ MPB4MPB4 Interpreta Chico Buarque ... LP
Barclay (Brazil), 1985. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The title says it all – as this excellent Brazilian vocal quartet runs through the work of the great Chico Buarque. Chico's compositions are always known for their warm imagination, and the tricks and turns in the songs works perfectly with the group's off-kilter style. Titles include "Roda Viva", "Sabia", "Ole, Ola", "Calice", "Partido Alto", and "Quem Te Viu, Quem Te Ve". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ MPB4Vira Virou ... LP
Ariola (Brazil), Early 80s. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Like the Quarteto Em Cy, MPB4 were one of those unique Brazilian talents who began in the 60s, and only kept improving their sound over the years. This early 80s album has the group in perfect form, harmony vocal-wise, and the arrangements on most tracks are light and jazzy, slightly modern in instrumentation, but perfectly conceived to bring out the best of the group's singing style. Titles include "Depende", "Olhar De Cobra", "Compadres", "Viracao", "Linha De Montagem", and "Bilhete". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has bent corners, some yellowing from age at the opening, and a name in pen at the center in front.)

✨✧ Chico BuarqueChico Buarque De Hollanda Vol 3 ... LP
RGE (Brazil), 1968. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Amazing work from a young Chico Buarque – a record that seems to draw on all the best elements of 60s Brazilian pop, and forge them into a sound that's all its own! At one level, there's a post-bossa style of larger arrangements here that recalls the work of Edu Lobo – handled by Maestro Gaya in a mode that recalls some of the best bits of the time on the Elenco or Forma labels. But at another level, there's also a personal and slightly folksy style that reminds us of the initial power of Geraldo Vandre – a sound that's clearly present in Buarque's work, and which stands in a direct line to the best strengths of the emerging Tropicalia generation. The set's filled with classics that include "Carolina", "Roda Viva", "O Velho", "Ate Pensei", "Sem Fantasia", and "Desencontro" – and a few tracks feature Chico in duets with either Toquinho, Cristina, or MPB4! LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono orange label pressing with deep groove. Cover is no longer in the plastic, but still looks great, with some wrinkling in back.)

✨✧ Chico BuarqueConstrucao ... LP
Philips/Endless Happiness (Italy), 1971. New Copy (reissue)... About January 31, 2025
If you've ever been wondering which album to get by Chico Buarque – this is it! The record's a stunning batch of sophisticated sides, done in collaboration with Roberto Menescal, and with help from Jobim and MPB4! The album builds on the style of Buarque's excellent late 60s songwriting, and adds in some of the more complicated approaches to arrangement that were being developed in Brazil at the end of the 60s – in a way that pushes Chico's work to the next level, and which makes this record sit right up there with work at the time by Jobim or Edu Lobo. Titles include "Samba De Orly", "Valsinha", "Acalanto", "Deus Ilhe Pague", and "Construcao". Really beautiful – with a lot of soul, and a great sound! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousLa Guepe Vol 3 – Bananaticoco: European Airlines To Rio ... LP
Dare Dare/Pulp Flavor (France), 1999. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Killer jazzy Brazilian grooves! It's common knowledge that Brazilian music has always found a wider audience in Europe than America (at least for most of the past 30 years) – and that a large number of European jazz and groove artists have created their own versions of the music, coming up with some killer hybrids of funk, fusion, and Brazilian rhythms. This excellent set brings together a dozen great cuts in that style – mostly from French, Italian, and German sources recorded during the 70s. The cuts are all super-rare (natch), and the selection of material is put together in a great way that keeps the whole thing very lively. Titles include "Ye Me Le" by Brazil Selection, "Kinky Peanuts" by Sesso Matto, "Bamba" by Dimenzio, "Vai Vai" by Jean Pierre Sabar, "Batucada Erotica" by Michel Colombier, "Senhor Piloto" by Tega & Ricardo, and "Casa Di Moda" by G & Moi Angeus. Also features one authentic Brazilian groover, the great cut "Agibore" by MPB4 – a killer funky number issued only on a 1973 promo LP by the Brazilian Ministry of Telecommunications for a European meeting! ✨✧ VariousMaximo De Sucessos No 5 ... LP
Philips (Brazil), Early 70s. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
An excellent collection of material from the end of the 60s – one of Brazil's most fertile times, musically, as is well documented on this set! The package features many great numbers that are hard to find on LP – including rare work by some of our favorite artists – and it's packaged in a heavy cardboard cover with a really weird image on the front. Titles include "Emy" and "Salve Salve" by Ivan Lins, "Cica Cecilia" and "Maria Joana" by Erasmo Carlos, "O Cafona" by MPB4, "Shirley Sexy" by Claudette Soares, "Na Tonga Da Mironga Do Kabulete" by Trio Mocoto, and "Ih, Meu Deus Do Ceu" by Elis Regina. LP, Vinyl record album
