✨✧ Love Unlimited OrchestraBest Of Love Unlimited Orchestra ... CD
Mercury, 1970s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A killer batch of instrumentals from Barry White – the gliding sweet funkiness of the Love Unlimited Orchestra, the instrumental ensemble that backed Barry on most of his own hits, and who were his best side project of the 70s! The package really includes some great stuff – including 12" mixes of some of the group's best tunes, a few hits, and some lesser known gems pulled from the groups LPs. 15 tracks in all – and titles include "My Sweet Summer Suite (12" mix)", "Brazilian Love Song (12" mix)", "Don't You Know How Much I Love You", "Satin Soul", "Love's Theme", "Theme From King Kong", "Theme From Together Brothers", "Blues Concerto", "Midnight & You", "Let The Music Play", and "Can't You See". ✨✧ Love Unlimited OrchestraLet 'Em Dance ... CD
Unlimited Gold/Priority, 1980. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Wicked late work by Barry White's instrumental group – soaring strings, snapping beats, and a tight dancefloor sound that shows that these guys were undaunted by disco! The orchestrations on the set are handled by Dave Roberts – and the sound is a nice update on the classic feel of the Love Unlimited Orchestra – with slightly longer tracks than before, and beats that still snap like the old days, but which also complicate the groove in a new way. Titles include "I'm In The Moon", "Jamaican Girl", "Bayou", "I Wanna Boogie & Woogie With You", "Young America", and "Vieni Qua Bella Mi". CD

Nice nice album of Barry White's funky instrumental tracks, with trademark heavy beats underneath, and the Love Unlimited Orchestra soaring in a soulful groove right up front! The Maestro's in fine form, both as a writer and leader, and the album's filled with tasty funky soulful goodies – like "Satin Soul", "Power Of Love", "You Make Me Feel Like This", and "Dreaming". CD

✨✧ Barry White & Love Unlimited OrchestraTogether Brothers – Original Soundtrack ... CD
Mercury, 1974. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A stunner of a soundtrack from the maestro Barry White – his only entry into the blacksploitation film genre of the 70s, and a complete doozy throughout! For the album, Barry's stripped down the bigger space of his own records, and his Love Unlimited productions – into some shorter tracks that really focus on that blend of funk and strings that he could do so well – making for a batch of killer instrumentals that really offer up a special Barry White take on the funky film sound of the 70s! Love Unlimited also sing on two tracks – "Somebody Is Gonna Off The Man" and "People Of Tomorrow Are The Children Of Today _- but most of the record is instrumental, played by the Orchestra – and tracks include "Killer's Lullaby", "So Nice To Hear", "Killer Don't Do It", "Can't Seem To Find Him", "Alive & Well", "Theme From Together Brothers", "Do Drop In", and "Here Comes The Man". CD
(1999 pressing.)

✨✧ MFSBDeep Grooves ... CD
Epic/Legacy, 1970s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A sweeeet little collection of work by one of the greatest studio combos ever – the mighty MFSB, backing group on most of the best Philadelphia soul albums of the 70s! MFSB were heard behind countless big Philly artists in the 70s – Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The O'Jays, and many others – but this set focuses on the sides the group made under their own name – in a succession of amazing instrumental soul records that really set a whole new standard for the genre at the time! Most numbers are full on strings, but have core funky rhythms – a Philly equivalent to the Love Unlimited Orchestra sound of the west coast, but a bit more funk-based overall. The set really goes for the best groovers of the group's early records – and includes an all-star lineup of tracks like "Sexy", "Back Stabbers", "K Jee", "Family Affair", "Freddie's Dead", "Love Is The Message (Love Groove Bonus)", "Love Has No Time Or Place", "Lay In Low", "Cheaper To Keep Her", and "Human Machine". CD
(Out of print, cutout hole through traycard.)

✨✧ VariousStrange Games & Funky Things 3 – Compiled By Kenny Dope ... CD
BBE (UK), 1970s. Used 3CDs ... Out Of Stock
One of the greatest soul compilation series ever! Kenny Dope put together this 3rd volume, and we might be tempted to say that it's the best one of the 3! Strange Games has a deceptively simple approach – but the compilation features the kind of grooves that will keep you coming back and back again, and which will play well with both fans of older soul and modern beat-heads alike. Nearly every track has been sampled at some point over the past 10 years – so you'll recognize many of the beats and riffs – but the tracks are also totally excellent, and hold up extremely well on their own as smooth modern soul classics. Titles include "Superman Lover" by Johnny Guitar Watson, "Standing Right Here" by Melba Moore, "Free" by Deniece Williams, "Holding You, Loving You" by Don Blackman, "Was It Something I Said" by Sylvester, "I've Been Watching You" by Parliament, "I'm Your Mechanical Man" by Jerry Butler, "I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You" by Leon Haywood, "Stars In Your Eyes" by Herbie Hancock, "Thoughts Of Old Flames" by Pleasure, "What Am I Missing?" by Rufus, and "Freddie's Dead" by MFSB. Also features a few cuts that have been on other compilations – by artists like Ramp, Labbi Siffre, Love Unlimited Orchestra, and Barry White – but they're all great anyway, and are fine to have again! CD version features 3 CDs! Disc 1 is a mixed set of tracks – and discs 2 and 3 are unmixed, and include 21 cuts between them. Packaged in a totally great slipcase, too! CD

✨✧ VariousStrange Games & Funky Things – Solid Rare Grooves & Smoking 70s Soul ... CD
BBE (UK), 1970s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic collection of rare groove tracks, featuring loads of lost 70's classics, and a number of hip hop sample cuts to boot! Includes "90% of Me is You" by Gwen McCrae, "Strange Games & Things" by Love Unlimited Orchestra, "Hollywood Dreaming" by Fathers Children, "Reasons" by Minnie Riperton, "Hunk of Heaven" by Lemuria, "Girl You Need a Change of Mind (12" mix)" by Eddie Kendricks, and "Another Day" by Ray, Goodman, and Brown – as sampled by Brand Nubian. Great stuff all through, and really makes us think of some of the best of the Mastercuts series from way back! CD
