Jonny TrunkA to Z Of Record Shop Bags – 1940s to 1990s ... Book
Fuel (UK), 2022. New Copy ... $26.99 34.95
Sometimes you don't realize you've been holding something great in your hands until you let it go – and for us, that's definitely the case with this beautiful book – a compendium of record store bags from the 20th Century – presented here in vivid images that remind us that the bags from the stores were often as colorful as the albums they contained! Author Jonny Trunk has given us many treasures over the years – both in book format, and on his label Trunk Records – yet this may be one of the best he's ever given us – as it's really the only way we'd ever get a chance to see the sorts of gems that were associated with vintage record purchases in classic record stores – but which were usually discarded once the records were brought home! The big book is 240 pages, and features over 500 images of record store bags from the 40s through the 90s – most from the UK, Trunk's home turf – and most of them even rarer than most records from the time. Each listing also includes a brief blurb about the store – so also consider the book to be a listing of over 500 classic record stores – lovingly compiled and brought together with a remaining fragment of their existence. Jonny TrunkAuto Erotica – A Grand Tour Through Classic Car Brochures Of The 1960s to 1980s ... Book
Fuel (UK), 2021. New Copy ... $29.99 34.95
You might know Jonny Trunk as the head of England's amazing Trunk Records label – but here, he demonstrates a completely different side of his talents, although one that's as aesthetically dynamic as the music he puts on his records! As the title implies, the book features two decades' worth of classic advertisements for automobiles – usually from publicity put out by the car companies themselves, and with the British and European spin you'd expect from Jonny's UK background. And, as with all his projects, Trunk's sense of taste and eye for the unusual is fantastic – and the book ends up being almost as much of an art piece as it is a document of the way that automobiles used to be presented to the public! Softcover, 240 pages, and full color throughout. Book

Jonny Trunk/Jerry Dammers (intro)Music Library – Graphic Art & Sound (revised & expanded) ... Book
Fuel Design (UK), 2005. New Copy ... $42.99 55.00
An incredible guide to sound library music around the world – one that features artwork from countless different labels, and brief notes on their history and output! The package is quite unique – not really a discography, not really an art book – but kind of a mix of both – and the only resource so far we've seen for tracking down the elusive musical gems that have come out of sound library sources of the 50s, 60s, and 70s! The book lists hundreds of records from 230 different labels – each presented alphabetically, with information and history on each label – alongside a huge amount of color images of the covers that are as beautiful as the music contained within. Trunk Records head Jonny Trunk put the whole thing together – and this huge second edition is twice as big as the first – really showing the full scope of new information on some of the more obscure labels that have come into play in recent years. 248 pages, hardcover, full color – and beautiful! ✨✧ Jonny TrunkWrappers Delight ... Book
Fuel (UK), 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Jonny Trunk's a man who's given us plenty of great music over the years – his fantastic productions on the Trunk Records label – but this time around, he's presenting us with something sweeter – hundreds of rare candy wrappers from the 20th Century, mixed with some soda cans and a few other sweet things too! There's over 500 images in the book, all full color – and the presentation is great – almost like an art book, as the wrappers aren't worn or dirty, but nearly pristine – and matched with notes and a bit of history. The book is overflowing with really cool images, including some unusual cards and inserts – and the focus here is probably most strong on the 60s and 70s, which is what we might expect from Jonny Trunk. Jarvis Cocker did the introduction, and the book is 237 pages, softcover, and full color throughout. Book

✨✧ Jonathan Klein with Herbie Hancock & OthersHear, O Israel – A Prayer Ceremony In Jazz ... LP
Jonny/Trunk (UK), 1968. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Heavenly music from the New York scene of the late 60s – a rare blend of modern jazz and spiritual themes – put together with a sound that's much hipper than you'd guess from the title and cover! The work was penned and directed by French Horn player Jonathan Klein – but it features some especially wonderful work from Herbie Hancock, who's playing acoustic piano here with a fluid, open sensibility that's very much in the spirit of his Prisoner album on Blue Note around the same time – lots of odd colors and tones that are extremely delightful, and which keep things at a pretty stirring level throughout. Other players are great too – and include Thad Jones on trumpet and Jerome Richardson on flute and saxes – supported by some female backing singers who present some of the spiritual themes of the prayer ceremony, but at a level that's much more subdued than other "jazz mass" albums of the time. The voices are mixed at a level that's secondary to the instrumentation – often a bit in the background, so that they're shading in the music with almost an additional sense of tone, rather than a stated lyrical content. The whole thing's extremely beautiful – with a heavenly sound that's hard to describe accurately, but which really matches the magic tone of Herbie's piano. And while the last two tracks feature some spoken passages from a Rabbi, the rest is mostly that sweet blend of piano and voices – on titles that include "Sanctification", "Kiddush", "May The Words Of My Mouth", "Micho Mocho", "Sh'ma", and "Blessing Over The Candles".
