Beautiful late work from pianist Ronnell Bright – an artist who's maybe best known for his work backing up singer Sarah Vaughan at the end of 50s, but a wonderfully sensitive musician on his own – and one who really shines best in a setting like this! The performance was captured in a small club in Japan – with a trio that features Allen Jackson on bass and Jimmie Smith on drums – both players who keep their contributions loose and light, so that Ronnell's rich approach to the piano really dominates the proceedings – sometimes inherently rhythmic and very swinging, sometimes more fluidly introspective, with a sublime lyrical quality. Titles include "Chaser For Sarah", "Speak Low", "Cheek To Cheek", "Sweet Pumpkin", "I've Got A Crush On You/Ghost Of A Chance", "Kansas City My Beat", and "Wave". CD
