✨✧ Guido & Maurizio DeAngelis2019 Dopo La Caduta Di New York (colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1983. New Copy ... $32.99 45.98
There's a real Escape From New York look to the cover here – and the music by Guido & Maurizio DeAngelis has a very strong John Carpenter vibe – lots of spare, stark numbers that shift between electro funk and moodier numbers – really setting up the action with a dose of horror, and maybe having a depth that can last longer than the film itself! Instrumentation is very 80s, in the best way possible – lots of keyboards and electro drum patterns – at a level that certainly make the DeAngelis brothers a key precursor to the sort of sounds that are very much favored by the Stranger Things generation. 17 tracks in all – and very strong all the way through. Guido & Maurizio DeAngelisBomber ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1982. New Copy ... $18.99
A catchy little soundtrack for a weird sort of film – one in which Italian comedy heavyweight Bud Spencer plays a boxer, and gets a great theme to match his action in and out of the ring! The core of the score is a groovy electro pop tune titled "Fantasy" – almost a mix between late 70s ELO and some of the cop/crime work of Guido & Maurizio DeAngelis – served up here in many many variations – some vocal, some instrumental – so that the whole thing almost feels like a long set of remixes dedicated to a single tune! There's a few other tracks in the mix too – and these space things out slightly – and although we've never seen the movie, we're betting that this repetition of Bud's theme is part of the charm of the whole thing. Guido & Maurizio DeAngelisL'Ultimo Squalo (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1981. New Copy ... $29.99
A nice little shark-themed soundtrack, but one that comes across with a vibe that's quite different than any of the music used for Jaws – partly because there's a number of vocal tunes in the mix! The set features three standout songs – "Hollywood Big Time" and "You've Changed The World For Me", sung by Yvonne Wilkins – and "Ballad", which is sung by composer Maurizio De Angelis himself – which are then mixed with instrumental numbers that are electric and keyboard-heavy, maybe more in line with Italian slasher/horror work of the period than you might expect! The colder electronics must have given the watery scenes a really great vibe on the screen – and the package features great sound throughout, and a mighty nice graphic appeal. LP, Vinyl record album

Guido & Maurizio DeAngelisUno Scerifo Extraterrestre – Poco Extra E Molto Terrestre (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Digitmovies (Italy), 1979. New Copy ... $19.99
That kid on the cover isn't as cute as ET – but he's also an extraterrestrial in a film from the same period – teaming up here with Italian comedic great Bud Spencer, amidst a lively little soundtrack from the duo of Guido and Maurizio DeAngelis! The style here is a bit like some of the brothers' other comedies of the period – whimsical, with occasional disco-generation elements – but given that Bud plays a rural sherriff, there's also some moments that try to evoke country music – but in this weirdly-refracted style that lets you know you're still very much in the hands of the Italian maestros! Crystal Bird turn in the rock ballad "Tonight Tonight" – and other tracks include "Big Star", "Whistle & Bells", "Dreaming Woman", "Atlanta", "L'Ultimo Valser", and "Mundialito". CD features 17 more bonus tracks too! CD

Four Flies (Italy), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy ... $34.99
Freaky funk from the Italian scene – exactly the kind of grooves that will open your ears if you think that funky sounds can only come from American soul bands or jazz musicians! The music here is filled with heavy drums, tight basslines, and lots of other groovy instrumental touches – offbeat keyboards, riffing guitars, and other instrumentation that's sometimes given these odd psychedelic touches by the studio maestros who were putting together the cuts at the time – some of which were used in obscure soundtracks, and a number of which appear here for the first time ever! This isn't the overly-familiar film music territory of other collections – and instead, most of this music is completely fresh – even for the longtime collector – presented in a great package that includes the cuts "Anastasia Mio Fratello" by Piero Piccioni, "Un Uomo Dalla Pelle Dura" by Carlo Pes, "La Mano Lunga Del Padrino" by Silvano D'Auria, "L'Arbitro" by Guido & Maurizio DeAngelis, "La Liceale Nella Classe Dei Ripetenti" by Gianni Ferrio, "L'Altro Dio" by Alessandro Alessandroni, "Giovane Clan" by Sandro Brugnolini, "La Profonda Luce Dei Sensi" by SEverino Gazzelloni, and "Calamo" by Claudio Tallino.
