Ebony Godfather (aka Joe Thomas)Moog Fluting ... LP
GRC, 1974. Near Mint- ... $24.99
Very groovy LP by Joe Thomas, who's recording here under his nickname "The Ebony Godfather". The LP's got Joe playing flute along with a tight funky large ensemble, and the whole thing's produced with a little bit of electronics that makes Joe's flute sound a little "moogy". There's lots of great cuts that have sort of a blacksploitation soundtrack sound, including "Electric Godfather", "Oracabessa", "Castlin", and "Checkmate". A nice LP, and one that we don't see too much anymore! LP, Vinyl record album

Red White & Blue (Grass)Red, White & Blue (Grass) ... LP
GRC, 1973. Near Mint- ... $14.99
A fantastic little band, and one who definitely have plenty of the bluegrass hinted at by their name – thanks to mandolin, dobro, guitar, and mando-cello from Norman Blake – who's in the group, along with Grant Boatwright on vocals and guitar, and Ginger Boatwright on additional vocals. LP, Vinyl record album
(In a very cool cover – shaped like a can!)

RippleWillie Pass The Water/Get Off ... 7-inch
GRC, 1973. Very Good+ ... $3.99
Two of the more obscure numbers that Ripple cut at the time of their first album – but both nice! "Willie" is a fast chugging funk number, with the title as the catchy vocal refrain on the chorus. "Get Off" is even better – with fast vamping wah wah guitar, organ rolling in, and lots of horns over the top, in a Wood Brass & Steel kind of mode! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Yellow label "Git Owf" pressing.)

Jagger BotchwayOdze Odze (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Cultures Of Soul, Mid 80s. New Copy ... $6.99 15.98
Sweet African funk from Jagger Botchway – a musician with roots in The Barons, Hedzoleh Soundz, and Kelenkye Band – stepping out here on his own in a heady brew of percussion, guitar lines, and horns! Some of the cuts are vocal, some are instrumental – and the mix of melody and rhythm is very unique – almost with Caribbean elements filtered into the more Ghanian styles you'd expect from Jagger – with a brightness in the grooves that fits well with the horn parts in the mix! And this special package doubles the content of the original record – by offering up all the album tracks, then adding in a full album of remixes too – which further emphasize the grit in the grooves. Titles include "Odze Odze", "Take Time", "Obleku", "Chapter 5", "Kake Odzole Oye", "Moko Le Dzen", "Odze Oldze (Africaine 808 rmx)", "Moko Le Dzen (Ruf Dug disco dub)", "Take Time (GRC rmx)", "Odze Odze (Alma Negra rmx)", and "Moko Le Dzen (GRC rmx)". ✨✧ Alice RussellPot Of Gold Remixes ... CD
Little Poppet, 2009. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Alice Russell's neo classic funk soul style gets the remix treatment – a sprawling 2CD set with remixes by DJ Vadim, Mr Scruff, Kid Gusto, Clonious, J-Boogie, Shawn Lee, Ohmega Watts, Ticklah, The Heavy, DJ Day & Clutchy Hopkins, Yellowtail and others! Alice Russell is a surprising choice for this kind of remix project, given the depth of reverent soul in her voice, and the general old school modeled songs, but she's in the hands of producers who know how to craft a timeless club groove without sacrificing the soul – keeping the original integrity of the tunes in place while putting their personal stamp on the groove. 22 tracks on 2CDs: "Let us Be Loving" (Kidkanevil rmix), "Got The Hunger?" (DJ Vadim rmx), "All Alone" (Mocean Worker rmx), "Lights Went Out" (LJM rmx), "Two Steps" (Shawn Lee's 7 Inches Of Soul rmx), "All Alone" (DJ Day Meets Clutchy Hopkins remx., "Universe" (GRC's Quiet Carnival mix) and more.
