A beautiful bit of baroque country rock – recorded across separate sessions in Hollywood, Nashville, and London – with a scope of sound that's equally expansive! The album's truly tremendous – at one level stepping off the psychedelic country of the late 60s LA underground, but at another picking up on some of the more elaborate arrangements of the Warner wunderkind crowd, filtered through a rougher, trippier London sensibility. The whole thing's amazing – with a rootsy feel at the core, but brilliant arrangements that sweeten with strings one minute, and crackle with guitars the next. There's almost a Beatles-like genius to the whole thing, but the overall sound is even more unique – and the record's one that we really would have missed, were it not for the fine efforts of Rev-Ola, who have also packaged the whole thing with deep deep notes! CD1 features Lost Sessions & Singles – material recorded during the earliest days of the Apple imprint, but which never saw the light of day at the time – some overlooked gems by Brute Force, Grapefruit, Timon, Contact, Mortimer, and Drew & Dy. CDs 2 and 3 are maybe some fo the best known parts of the pie – singles and other cuts that were issued at the time, but which are still pretty darn obscure – work by Danny Kalb & Stefan Grossman, The Misunderstood, Turquoise, Joker, Coconut, Gallagher & Lyle, The Perishers, Rawlings & Huckstep, The Cups, Coconut Mushroom, The U, Focal Point, and others too!
