Elvis CostelloThis Years Model (180 gram pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Columbia/Universal, 1978. New Copy ... $23.99 25.99
One of the most important early records by Elvis Costello – and maybe one of a small handful that we'd deem completely essential out of his massive catalog over the decades! Elvis and The Attractions are in perfect form here – coming across with all the biting energy of the punk generation, but not punk at all – and instead finding a way to open the door to a global audience, especially American, that some of his contemporaries weren't able to reach at the time – thanks to some incredible songs that even Elvis might not have thought would go on to become pop and rock standards over the years! Titles include "This Year's Girl", "Hand In Hand", "Chelsea", "Lip Service", "Little Triggers", "Pump It Up", "No Action", "Lipstick Vogue", and "Living In Paradise". US version also includes "Radio Radio" and "Big Tears". LP, Vinyl record album
(2021 Remastered Edition – origial UK pressing with 2 US bonus tracks!)

Elvis Costello & OthersSpanish Model ... LP
Universal, 2021. New Copy Gatefold ... $23.99 25.99
A new take on a classic set from Elvis Costello – a record that features all the tunes from the classic This Year's Model album, done anew, and with Spanish language vocals from a variety of global stars! The overall sound of the record is a bit more contemporary than the 70s release – with production by Sebastian Krys, directed by Costello – who conceived the project – and while we're not sure that the record is going to open up Elvis in a huge new market, the whole thing is both a fresh take on the classic, and a testament to its staying power over the years. Titles include "La Chica De Hoy" by Cami, "Mentira" by Pablo Lopez, "Chelsea" by Raquel Sofia Y Fuego, "Yo Te Vi" by Draco Rosa, "No Action" by Nina Diaz, "La Turba" by Jorge Drexler, "Lipstick Vogue" by Morat, "Crawling To The USA" by Gian Marco & Nicole Zignago, and "Radio Radio" by Fito Paez. Jazz Passengers with Deborah Harry & Elvis CostelloIndividually Twisted (peach vinyl pressing) ... LP
32 Jazz/Modern Harmonic, 1996. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99 24.99
A surprising 90s set from The Jazz Passengers – the New York group who'd worked in many modes other than just the straight jazz you might guess from their name, but who here maybe take things back to basics, especially on some of the cuts that bring in vocals from famous guests who include Deborah Harry and Elvis Costello! In some ways, Harry is the core of the set – as she unlocks this great jazz-based side of her style, in a way that gives her voice a whole new level of expression – one that's surprisingly strong next to the instrumentation provided by Roy Nathanson, Curis Fowlkes, and the rest of the group. Elvis Costello sings moodily on the tune "Aubergine" – but most other vocal numbers feature Deborah Harry, and include "Pork Chop", "Lil Darlin", "Maybe I'm Lost", "Imitation Of A Kiss", "Ole", and "Angel Eyes". Harry and Costello duet on "Doncha Go Way Mad" – and the set also features a nice instrumental remake of the Nat Adderley tune "Jive Samba". LP, Vinyl record album
(First time on vinyl! Limited peach colored vinyl pressing.)

Johan Lindstrom SeptettOn The Asylum ... LP
Moserobie (Sweden), 2021. New Copy ... $24.99
A really great change in the music of Swedish guitarist Johan Lindstrom – music that expands the vision of his previous record, and also explores some more song-based territory – while still allowing for lots of musical contributions from other players we love on the Moserobie label! You know something's different when Elvis Costello steps in on the first track for a bit of spoken lyrics to a song he wrote with Lindstrom – and things continue to move in other ways throughout – with vocals from Sofie Livebrandt on two tracks, amidst work from Jonas Kullhammar on saxes and flute, Per Texas Johansson on clarinet and tenor, Jesper Nordenstrom on piano and organ, Mats Aleklint on trombone Torbjorn Zetterberg on bass, and Konrad Agnas on drums! Most tracks are relatively short, but work together well – and there are definitely moments of improvisation amidst some of the more structured elements of the record – on titles that include "What What", "Homeward", "Trombone Interlude", "Edwards Chacone", "Music Orbit Box", "Septet Serenade", "Echoes Across The Dunes", and "Worms Of Underground". ✨✧ Chet BakerMemories In Tokyo ... LP
Paddle Wheel/King (Japan), 1987. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Late work from Chet Baker, but great work too – and sounds that have Baker returning to an incredibly strong sense of force in the final year of his life! We love some of Chet's records from earlier in the decade, but many of those are a bit laidback – kind of a beautiful exploration of space and lanquidity. But here, Baker's got a hell of a fire – blowing crisp notes that are given a wonderful drive from a quartet that features Harold Danko on piano, Hein Van De Geyn on bass, and John Engels on drums! Chet sings a bit, but the real showcase is his trumpet work – superb, and maybe still at the top of the range of trumpeters working at the time on the planet – on titles that include "Portrait In Black & White", "Stella By Starlight", "For Minors Only", and "My Funny Valentine" – plus a nice reading of the Elvis Costello tune "Almost Blue". LP, Vinyl record album
(Beautiful Japanese pressing – limited edition, with obi!)
