✨✧ Salum Abdallah & Cuban Marimba BandNgoma Tanzania ... LP
Domino Sound, Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful sounds from the short-lived musical legacy of Salum Abdallah and his Cuban Marimba Band – a group from Tanzania, but one who play with lots of influence from Latin Music – as you might guess from their name! And yet, unlike some of the larger, fuller Latin-influenced groups that were springing up on the West African scene of the 60s, this combo has a sound that's pretty stripped-down – often just heavy percussion and work on guitar – which appears to be a unique hybrid of the Cuban style of the instrument, which gets plucked and inflected in great ways next to the vocals! The well-done set might be the best we've seen so far from the Domino Sound label – and features tracks that include "Njoo Haraka", "Naumiya", "Cuba Cha Cha", "Kutenda Maovu", "Ngoma Iko Huku", "Macho Laini", "Masikitiko", and "Asiye Bahati Duniani". ✨✧ My Bloody ValentineMBV (deluxe edition – with bonus download) ... LP
Domino/MBV, 2013. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A surprising return to form for My Bloody Valentine – their first album in many years, and a set that's maybe got more freak and fuzz than the last few records that preceded it! Here, the group remind us that back in the mid 80s, they were one of the first to kickstart a new wave of psychedelic exploration that so many others followed in years to come – and despite the passage of years, they maybe sound better here than we ever could have expected – almost like they took a time machine back to Alan McGee's flat, and worked out the best part of their sound from scratch – then found a way to update it in very subtle ways, but without losing their charm at all. The sonic quality of the record is superb – and titles include "If I Am", "Is This Yes & Yes", "Only Tomorrow", "She Found Now", "Wonder 2", "Nothing Is", and "In Another Way". LP, Vinyl record album
(Deluxe gatefold with tip-on sleeve – with 5 art prints and download! Quantities limited – and fully analog cut!)

✨✧ VariousWedding Songs – The Progression Of An Ethiopian Amhara Wedding ... LP
Philips/Domino Sound, 1973. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Rare Ethiopian material from the early 70s – ostensibly a set of wedding-related tracks, but with grooves that are every bit as great as classics in the Ethiopiques series! The songs are traditional, but given some great golden age arrangements by Getachew Degefu – who swings most of them with romping rhythms that are perfect for the sing-song vocals of Lemma Gebgre Hiwot, Selamawit Gebre Selassie, and Zenebech Tesfaye – most of whom are backed by joyous singers who really send the message home! Titles include "Hay Loga", "Wondemiye", "Yihe New Wey Mizesh", "Indiyaw Yemiru", "Musherit Lemdallech", and "Yebete Zemedu". LP, Vinyl record album

BandMoondog Matinee ... LP
Capitol, 1973. Near Mint- ... $9.99
The Band's surprising step back to their roadhouse roots – paying homage to early rock and rhythm & blues the grew up on, and honed their chops on when in their years as The Hawks! Moondog Matinee features a few great covers that split the difference between the raucous energy of their inspirations, from Chuck Berry to Clarence Frogman Henry to Fats Domino to Junior Parker – and the well-oiled, multi-voice Band groove at near-peak form. Titles include "I Ain't Got No Home", "Holy Cow", "Share Your Thoughts", "Mystery Train", "Third Man Theme", "Promised Land", "The Great Pretender", "I'm Ready", "Saved" and "A Change Is Gonna Come". LP, Vinyl record album
(Purple label pressing. Cover has light edge wear on the spine, but is nice overall.)

CasualDemo Sessions ... LP
Dope Folks, Early 90s. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
Rare demo work from Heiroglyphics legend Casual – done before the release of his classic album Fear Itself, and presented here as a great prequel to that much-loved record! The tracks have a great edge – spare samples that work perfectly with the straightforward beats – as the man himself spins out well-crafted rhymes that maybe seem to have even more bite without the heavier production of a bigger studio! Titles include "Me O Mi O (Domino rmx)", "Gotta Lotta", "Fear No Evil", "Where They At", "Can You Feel It", and "Rippers", which features work from Opio and Tajai. LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited to 400 copies!)

✨✧ Art Farmer/Benny Golson JazztetAnother Git Together ... LP
Mercury, Mid 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite records ever from the legendary Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet – and a rare later date, recorded after their more famous albums for Chess! The lineup here is a bit unusual – in that a young Grachan Moncur III is in the combo on trombone – really adding some deep, soulful tones to the music – in ways that are very different than his famous Blue Note performances – but which really shape the sound of the music here wonderfully! Harold Mabern's on piano – again bringing in a different feel to this record for the group, with some lyrical undercurrents that are beautiful – and the rest of the lineup features Roy McCurdy on drums and Herb Lewis on bass – in addition to the sublime trumpet of Art Farmer and tenor of Benny Golson. Titles include one of the best versions of "Along Came Betty" that we've ever heard – plus the tracks "Domino", "Another Git Together", "Reggie", and "Space Station. LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese stereo pressing – EXPR 1002. Cover has light wear and a cutout notch.)

Smiley LewisI Hear You Knocking ... LP
Imperial, Late 50s. Near Mint- ... $11.99 14.99
Raw New Orleans soul from Overton "Smiley" Lewis – one of the city's big stars in the 50s R&B years, and a singer who arguably set the stage for later deep soul to come! A few years before, and Lewis might have been more of a blues singer – but here, he's working with some strong Nola piano lines and lightly loping rhythms – in a mode that's vaguely in the Fats Domino side of the universe, but a lot more raw and stripped-down too – from the performance to the production! Tracks include Smiley's classic "I Hear You Knocking", plus loads of other nice ones – including "Bumpity Bump", "Bells Are Ringing", "Blue Monday", "Lost Weekend", "Real Gone Lover", and "One Night". LP, Vinyl record album

Van MorrisonHis Band & Street Choir (180 gram turquoise vinyl pressing) ... LP
Warner, 1970. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $21.99
One of the great albums from Van Morrison during that incredible peak period – and a record that stands out as a less emotionally fraught effort after the heavy mood of Astral Weeks and the super far-reaching Moondance albums. Here Van concentrates a bit more on his love of R&B, but still with some soaring touches. Titles include the unshakable classic "Domino", plus "Crazy Face", "I've Been Working", "Blue Money", "Virgo Clowns", "Gypsy Queen", "Street Choir" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

Andy Williams with Quincy JonesUnder Paris Skies ... LP
Cadence, 1960. Very Good+ ... $0.99
This cool album from the early 60's has Andy singing a set of French stuff, recorded in France, with orchestral backing by Quincy Jones! As usual, Quincy gives the set a nice hip touch, and that, combined with a cool set of French compositions, makes for a very groovy album of vocals. Titles include "Under Paris Skies", "Domino", "April In Paris", "Comme Ci, Comme Ca", and "Boom". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousShanghai'd Soul – Episode 4 ... LP
Numero, Late 60s/1970s. Sealed ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Some of the heaviest cuts from the Numero Records catalog – brought together here on a cool compilation that follows the format of some of the Wu-Tang/Shaolin funk collections! The music is way more than break-oriented funk – as some of these tracks are deep soul numbers, but have this sock-solid energy at the core that really makes them powerful – every bit as hard-hitting as more overstated funk, and often with a subtle, sinister energy that really makes the songs sound wonderful together here as a whole! And despite the lack of the usual voluminous Numero Group notes and story behind the music, these tunes more than stand together on their own – telling their own rich story in soul, through tracks that include "Like A Ship" by TL Barrett & The Youth For Christ Choir, "Nevermore" by Renaldo Domino, "Never Walk Out On You" by Mitch Mitchell & Gene King, "Don't Be Surprised" by Lynn Williams, "Am I A Good Man" by Them Two, "This Time" by Family Connection, "I Need Your Love" by Skim Mahoaney & The Casuals, "Is There Any Love" by Trevor Dandy, "Dirt & Grime" by Father's Children, and "Ladies & Wonderful Girls" by Majestic Arrows. Colemine, 2010s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A massive selection of work from the contemporary underground scene – cuts that previously appeared as limited edition 7" singles on the excellent Colemine labels – one of our favorite sources for contemporary funk! The set's got as much vintage vibe as you'd guess from the label styles on the cover – and this limited vinyl version is beautifully pressed, with sound that may well even be more fantastic than the 45s. Titles include "Ice Breaker" by Bubaza, "Winston Theme" by Winston Brothers, "Slipshot" by Jungle Fire, "Rome" by Dojo Cuts, "Morning In America" by Durand Jones & The Indications, "Standing With You" by The Resonaires, "Nothing But His Love" by The Harlem Gospel Travelers, "Sommer" by The Ironsides, "No Laggin & Draggin" by Renaldo Domino, "Sunk In The Mist" by Jr Thomas & The Vocalos, "Step Down" by Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, "Over You" by Aaron Frazer, "Fo Sho" by Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, "More Than A Memory" by Ben Pirani, and "One & Only" by Oliver James. Cash Money, 2010. New Copy 3LP Gatefold ... $53.99 59.99
The debut of Nicki Minaj – a record that's issued in a much longer legacy than some might have thought at the time! The charms of Nicki are well-known, and we hardly need to recount them here – but that take-charge quality of her work still comes through loud and clear after all these years – a standard-setting mode that even overshadows the album's guest appearances by giants like Kanye, Drake, Rihanna, Eminem, and Will I Am! Titles include "I'm The Best", "Roman's Revenge", "Check It Out", "Blazin", "Here I Am", "Dear Old Nicki", "Last Chance", "Your Love", "Fly", "Moment 4 Life", "Right Thru Me", and "Save Me". 3LP version features a full record of bonus tracks – including "Bedrock", "Girls Fall Like Dominoes", "Catch Me", "Super Bass", "Muny", "Blow Ya Mind", "Wave Ya Hand", and "Roman's Revenge" with Lil Wayne.
