Pussy GaloreRight Now ... LP
Caroline, 1987. Very Good+ ... $19.99 24.99
Blistering raunch 'n' roll from Pussy Galore! They had pretty much perfected their mess by the time Right Now came out. The group still bring as much shrapnel-y noise and with all of the barbed ferocity of the meanests MFs in the darkest corners of late 80s indie rock – but unlike your Big Blacks, Scratch Acids and Butthole Surfers, Pussy Galore seems to genuinely love old school rock 'n' roll – even while they stomp it to death! A true anti-classic. Includes "Pig Sweat", "White Noise", "Uptight", "Biker Rock Loser", "Rope Legend", "Alright", "New Breed", "Knock Up", "Punch Out", "Pussy Stomp", "Trashcan Oil Drum", "Fix It", "Rancid", "Hell Spawn". ✨✧ Stephen Miller/CoxhillStory So Far/Oh Really? ... LP
Caroline (UK), 1974. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful split album between British soprano sax genius Lol Coxhill and prog jazz keyboardist Stephen Miller. Coxhill's side is the standout one – as it features tunes that run from quirky solo numbers ("Tubercular Bells"), to hippy dippy ensemble ones ("Soprano Derivato", which features Robert Wyatt and Kevin Ayers), to experimental tunes with some great effects (like the "recorder echoes" on "Oh Do I Like To Be Beside The Seaside", or the cathedral organ on "In Memoriam".) Miller's side is sparer – and mostly features solo electric piano, played in a way that reminds us of the jazzier moments in Matching Mole or Soft Machine. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a small cutout hole, but this is a great copy!)

✨✧ EggCivil Surface ... LP
Caroline (UK), 1974. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
The third album recorded by British jazz rockers Egg – a set done only after the group had reformed for Virgin Records, and easily their most complicated work to date! By the time of this recording, the members of the core trio – especially keyboardist Dave Stewart – had really honed their skills, and were able to work in a range of jamming, jazzy modes. Much of the focus here is on the instrumentation – especially Stewart's work on organ – and the session adds in extra oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and "germophone" – plus a trio of voices on one number. The sound is progressive without being overindulgent – and titles include "Germ Patrol", "Pielude", "Wind Quartet 1", "Wring Out The Ground Loosely Won", and "Enneagram". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Beach BoysPet Sounds ... LP
Capitol, 1966. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
One of the greatest records of all time – and don't you forget it! Despite the countless lines of type that have been written about this record, nothing does it full justice like an all-through listen – something we're reminded of every time we put this one on the turntable, which is a heck of a lot over the years! Brian Wilson busted his ass making this little gem – and the rest of the world, and the band, were never the same again – awash in harmonies that most other groups tried to match, set to themes of young loss, longing, and frustration that really mark an emotional development – not just in the Beach Boys, but in pop music in general. And although some of the tracks are ones you've heard a million times on oldies stations, they somehow resonate together much more strongly here – taking on new meaning as the smaller elements of each song come into constellation with each other – creating a complicated tapestry of feelings set to near-godlike orchestrations. Titles include "God Only Knows", "Caroline No", "Pet Sounds", "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", and "You Still Believe In Me". LP, Vinyl record album
(Duophonic stereo rainbow label pressing. Cover has light ring & edge wear, aging. Includes Capitol inner sleeve.)

Danyel GerardDanyel Gerard ... LP
Verve/MGM, 1972. Very Good Gatefold ... $5.99
A weird bit of folk funk rock – and a totally cool record on early 70s Verve! The album was recorded during the Mike Curb years at MGM – and has a similar pop crossover, adult hip kind of sound to some of Curb's other big success stories. The sound's an unusual blend of folk and growing 70s pop modes – and the track "Let's Love" is a nice spacey groover with a flanged-out pop sound. Songs include "Butterfly", "From Japan To America", "Low Lay Low", "Teddy Bear", "Harlequin", "Caroline", "Face Of A Clown", "The Gun", "Rain", "Elie Lama Sabacthani", and "Let's Love". ✨✧ Lou ReedBerlin ... LP
RCA, 1973. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The "biggest" album of Lou Reed's career – in the grand sense – with epic production and a small army of superstar session players and production by spectacle specialist Bob Ezrin – but that's paired with arguably the darkest, gloomiest songcycle ever composed by Lou Reed! The dichotomy works, and Lou apparently agrees, having revisited the material in the mid aughties to great acclaim. Ultimately, this and the previous year's Transformer makes for one of the strangest and most incredible transitions over a short period of time in pop music history. Titles include "Berlin", "Lady Day", "Men Of Good Fortune", "Caroline Says" (I & II), "The Kids", "The Bed", "Sad Song" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange label pressing. Includes the booklet. Cover has light wear.)

Bobby's so great, it's hard to fit all of his good stuff on one LP – but this set does a pretty darn good job, and includes 12 tracks from his legendary years on United Artists! Hearing this set, we're stunned to realize just how many great tracks Bobby turned out over the years – especially because there's a few nice ones on here we forgot that he even did. Titles include "Harry Hippie", "You're Welcome, Stop On By", "Sweet Caroline", "That's The Way I Feel About Cha", "More Than I Can Stand", "I Can Understand It", "Lookin For A Love", and "Woman's Gotta Have It". ✨✧ VariousRewind! 5 – Original Classics Re-Worked, Remixed, Re-Edited, & Rewound ... LP
Ubiquity, 2006. Near Mint- 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Rewind the tape and full steam ahead – as Ubiquity's latest collection of funky soul covers really pushes the boundaries of this already-hip series! As with other volumes, the format here has current groups covering sounds of the 60s and 70s – mostly funk and soul, but also with some surprising rock contributions this time around – tunes that may have roots in more guitar-based originals, but which sparkle anew here in more electric or soul-based remakes! The list of performers here may be the hippest so far in the series – which accounts for most of the success of the tunes – and titles include "Dreams" by Black Shakespeare, "Be Still My Beating Heart" by Randy Watson Experience, "Crazy You" by Osunlade, "Spoiled" by Daz-I-Kue with Bembe Segue & Colonel Red, "Caroline No" by Owusu & Hannibal, "Walk On By" by El Michels Affair, "Handle It" by Rebirth, "Dirty Love" by J Davey, "No Quarter" by Nuspirit Helsinki, and "L'Abeille" by Henrik Schwarz. ✨✧ VariousWayfaring Strangers – Ladies From The Canyon ... LP
Numero, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A sweet collection of early 70s female post folk revival material – independent and long lost recordings from unknowns that used folk and psychedelia as offerings to each singer's idiosyncratic muse – and another incredible collection of deeply sought rare tunes from the Numero Group! Numero really blows us away with their ability to seek out and lovingly reissue lost recordings – and package them in beautiful and insightful collections – and this one is as impressive as anything they've done to date. It features singer songwriters from sleepy midwestern Illinois and Minnesota, to the enlightened, heightened Bay, and points between and beyond – with songs from records originally pressed in runs of 500 to 5000. The music is warm, groovy and sincere as can be, much of it surprisingly timeless! Includes: "A Special Path" by Becky Severson, "Cricket" by Collie Ryan, "Sunlight Shadow" by Linda Rich, "Engram" by Caroline Peyton, "And I A Fairytale Lady" by Carla Sciaky, "Window" by Judy Kelly, "Dedication" by Mary Perrin, "Rain" by Marj Snyder, "Wildman" by Ginny Reilly. ✨✧ Nat Adderley & The Three SoundsBranching Out ... LP
Riverside, 1958. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A really great one in the early catalog of Nat Adderley – a set that has Cannonball's brother stepping out as a leader with bold tenor sax work from Johnny Griffin, and rhythm work by Gene Harris and the original Three Sounds trio! The set's got a couple of originals – "Sister Caroline" and "Branching Out" – plus versions of "Well You Needn't" and "I've Got Plenty Of Nothin". Gene Harris & The Three Sounds make for a nice backing, and Johnny Griffin's solos are as sharp as they ever were at this point. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Colin BlunstoneI Don't Believe In Miracles ... LP
CBS (UK), Early 70s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Excellent compilation of the early solo tracks recorded by this beautiful vocalist from The Zombies. The tracks are culled from his first 3 records – One Year, Ennismore, and Journey – all of which are pretty darn tough to find on wax! If you don't know this stuff, it's some of the most godlike pop ever created in the world, and it mixes Colin's heavenly voice with swirling strings and haunting arrangements that are a perfect extension from the late Zombies material. Titles include "I Don't Believe In Miracles", "Wonderful", "Say You Don't Mind", "Misty Roses", "Though You Are Far Away", "Let Me Come Closer To You", "How Could We Dare To Be Wrong", and "Caroline Goodbye". ✨✧ Matching MoleMatching Mole ... LP
CBS (UK), 1972. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A record of pure genius – and one of the greatest albums ever to come out of the British jazz rock scene! Matching Mole was a bit of a supergroup at the time – one that featured the piano, drums, and voice of Robert Wyatt next to the guitar of Phil Miller – topped off by additional piano, organ, and electric piano – in a wonderfully spacey, wonderfully mellow style that's never been matched again! If you dig the quieter, gentler side of Wyatt's work – or some of Miller's most intimate recordings on Virgin – you'll totally flip over the album – but even that's not giving it it's full due, because the sound is totally unique. Wyatt's vocals are wonderfully personal, and almost heartbreaking at times – handled with a fragility that few others of his generation had the courage to match! Titles include "Part Of The Dance", "Signed Curtain", "O Caroline", "Instant Kitten", "Beer As In Braindeer", and "Dedicated To Hugh But You Weren't Listening". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Hugo MontenegroNeil's Diamonds – Fashioned By Hugo Montenegro ... LP
RCA, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A weird and wonderful record – the early hits of Neil Diamond, played on the moog and ARP by the mighty Hugo Montenegro! The approach to the set is pretty darn cool – as it takes 10 of Neil's best early tunes, and runs them through arrangements by Montenegro that run from funky to groovy to dreamy – and which feature some very strange use of electronics! Sparkling and weird all the way through – with versions of "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon", "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show", "Sweet Caroline", "Two-Bit Man Child", "Porcupine Pie", and more! ✨✧ Alphonse MouzonMan Incognito ... LP
Blue Note, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A monstrous bit of jazz funk from drummer Alphonse Mouzon – spacey tracks in a choppy style that reminds us a bit of some of the best European fusion albums from the period, but with a harder groove overall! Mini Moog and ARP trip out the sound throughout, but the underlying rhythms are nice and heavy. Lee Ritenour's on guitar, and he gets a lot of play on the record – but the main groove is Alphonse's heavy funky snakefoot! Al's drums and percussion are furiously frenetic, and he also plays a lot of keyboards – and other players include Tom Scott on tenor, Dave Grusin on clavinet, Victor Feldman on bongos and congas, and Charles Meeks on bass. A few tracks have vocals – by Marty McCall, Jackie Ward, and Caroline Willis – as well as Alphonse himself and the album's also got two very nice break-oriented tracks – "Snake Walk" and "New York City" – both with nice hard drums! Titles include a number of other good fusion groovers, like "Without A Reason", "Just Like the Sun", "Before You Leave", "Just Like The Sun", and "Mouzon Moves On". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Doc SeverinsenRhapsody For Now ... LP
RCA, 1973. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Kind of a cool concept album for Doc Severinsen – one that has him blowing amidst some larger suites arranged by Oliver Nelson, Harry Betts, and Tommy Newsom – each with a slightly different feel! The set starts out with the hip "Rhapsody For Now" – comprised of some cool 70s tunes like "Live & Let Die", "Soul Makossa", "Shambala", and "Touch Me In The Morning" – done up in hip big band arrangements by Nelson that are totally great. The same groove follows in the shorter "Pictures", arranged by Lenny Stack – which is a sweet funky number! "Rhapsody For Then" is next – but the "then" is really just the late 60s – as Severinson blows trumpet over big band versions of "California Dreamin", "Look Of Love", "A Song For You", and "Sweet Caroline". The set ends with straighter jazz on "I Remember Louis" – a suite of tunes associated with Louis Armstrong, but still given a pretty 70s twist in the arrangements. LP, Vinyl record album
