Hiatus KaiyoteCanopic Jar EP (fluorescent green vinyl pressing) ... 12-inch
Brainfeeder, 2021. New Copy (pic cover)... $13.99 14.99
That's a spooky cover on this single from Hiatus Kaiyote – and they definitely bring some of that energy to the title tune "Canopic Jar" – a track that begins with a bit of a horror introduction, and moves into some of the eeriest funky soul we've heard from the group! The tune's got a great heavy drum breakdown in the middle, peppered by vocal shrieks – and preceded by the cool intro track "Journey To The Crystal Tomb" – the followed by an instrumental and acapella track too. 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Hiatus KaiyoteMood Valiant ... CD
Brainfeeder, 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Hiatus Kaiyote are one of those groups that just seem to grow and grow with each new about – a strongly soulful act at their start, but one who've found a way to carve out sounds and styles that are very much their own – maybe almost making themselves a genre in the process! Things here are both cosmic and crispy, heaven-bound and earthy, in this mix of electro-acoustic energy that perfectly fits the vocals of Nai Palm, and the pulsating energy from the rest of the group – funky, but in footprints that are far from the conventional – future soul writ large, glowing with new inspiration and energy. Titles include "Get Sun", "And We Go Gentle", "Sip Into Something Soft", "All the Words We Don't Say", "Stone Or Lavender", "Sparkle Tape Break Up", and "Blood & Marow". CD

Jameszoo & Metropole OrkestMelkweg ... LP
Brainfeeder, 2020. Sealed 2LP ... $16.99
A really beautiful collaboration between Jameszoo and the Metropole Orkest – that large Dutch ensemble who seem always able to shift into the right sort of mode with their key collaborators! That's definitely the case here, as Jules Buckley masterfully leads the group – so that they flesh out all these great strands of sounds coming from the core quintet – with lots of keyboards and electronics from Jameszoo himself, plus more organ, Fender Rhodes, percussion, and saxes – sometimes used in ways that are spare and jagged, but which take on this richness next to the strings and woodwinds of the Metropole ensemble! Titles include "Nail", "Flu", "Crumble", "Meat", "Lose", "Toots", and "Soup". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ ThundercatIt Is What It Is ... CD
Brainfeeder, 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A tremendous album from Thundercat – an artist who just seems to get better and better with every new record, and who's maybe here defining a genre that's completely unto himself! The record is soulful, and has a lot of contemporary cosmic currents – but it's also more far-reaching and fluid than anything that Thundercat's ever given us before – still done with key help from Flying Lotus, but with a majestic, confident quality that seems to have the duo ready to take over the universe! The airy soulful vocals are great, but the rhythms and instrumentation are maybe even more compelling – as there's a number of tunes here that are almost impossible to describe in words, even though they're instantly appealing and wonderfully soulful – a balance that's the sort of special genius from an artist who's ready to write himself into the pop music history books with a key release like this. There's a whole host of guests – including Ty Dolla Sign, Childish Gambino, Louis Cole, Kamasi Washington, Badbadnotgood, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, and many others – but it's clear that the Thundercat/Flying Lotus axis holds all the power – on titles that include "Fair Chance", "Funny Thing", "How Sway", "Miguel's Happy Dance", "Lost In Space/Great Scott/22-26", "Interstellar Love", "Overseas", "Dragonball Durag", "King Of The Hill", and "Existential Dread". Kamasi WashingtonEpic (3CD set) ... CD
Brainfeeder, 2015. New Copy 3 CDs ... $18.99 28.98
A modern day spiritual jazz treasure – completely wonderful all the way through, and a set you might well file proudly next to your classics from John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders! The record's as epic as it promises in the title – a three volume journey in jazz, headed by tenorist Kamai Washington, who emerges here as a tremendous leader, a hell of a writer, and a rich jazz talent in every sense of the word – carefully steering a group of musicians through work that's searing, searching, and driven with a very cosmic vibe! Tunes are often modal, and never step too far outside, but always push the boundaries – and the instrumentation is a shifting mix of keyboards, piano, trombone, trumpet, bass, drums, and percussion – plus some vocal performances from Dwight Trible and Patrice Quinn. You might know Kamasi from his work with Flying Lotus and Thundercat – the latter of whom plays bass on this set – but the album's very much his own, and very much jazz all the way through. The kind of record we're mighty proud to be offering – with tracks that include "Askim", "The Next Step", "Rhythm Changes", "Miss Understanding", "Leroy & Lanisha", "Re Run", "Seven Prayers", "Malcolm's Theme", and "The Message". CD
