✨✧ Jack HammerRebellion – Jack Hammer Sings & Reads Songs & Poems Of The Beat Generation ... LP
Warwick, Early 60s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the coolest albums of beatnik jazz we've ever heard – thanks a lot to Jack Hammer, who comes off here like a self-styled Oscar Brown Jr! Despite the title, most of the work seems to be Jack's own – and the record features some hip Ginsberg/Kerouac-styled poems spoken over small combo jazz backing by an unnamed group with a great guitarist – plus more tracks that are actually songs, done in the evocative folk jazz style that Brown was using heavily in his recordings of the period. Pretty compelling stuff overall – about halfway between the album that Langston Hughes cut with Mingus, and any Oscar Brown Jr albums on Columbia. Titles include "Like", "Man Candle", "Rebellion", "The Hawks & The Crowns", "Neon Moon", and "Mean & Evil Me". (Vocalists, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(White label promo. Cover has some wear.)
