Street ChristiansIt's Been A Long Time A Comin ... LP
PIP, Mid 70s. Very Good+ ... $6.99
Don't know these guys, but they're a great little group – with a mixture of gospel righteousness and 70s group soul, in the same mode as Voices Of East Harlem, who were undoubtedly an inspiration. The record was recorded in New York, with arrangements that have a hip early 70s approach – slight touches of folksiness in the backings, with just a bit of acoustic guitar to give the songs the "right on" style that pushes them far out of the gospel range. Titles include "Touching Hands", "Didn't He?", "Clear To The End Of The Line", "Wanted", and "I Just Didn't Read The Sign". (Soul, Gospel) LP, Vinyl record album
(White label promo, including the insert. Cover has initials in marker, light stains at the bottom, and a promo sticker.)

✨✧ Staple SingersThis Time Around ... LP
Stax, Early 70s/1981. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Previously unreleased material by The Staple Singers – recorded during their landmark late 60s/early 70s run for Stax Records – but not issued until many years after their departure from the label! The set's easily as great as the quartet's famous albums for Stax – and has that same sublime blend of gospel roots and righteous 70s soul – all with an undercurrent of funk, and a totally tight sound that makes the group easily one of the best to ever cross the line between secular and spiritual! There's plenty of guitar and keyboard riffing alongside the vocals – helping the grooves do their thing – and the vocals of Mavis Staples are strongly in the lead on most numbers – heard here at that early best that really blows away her later recordings. Titles include "Trippin On Your Love", "A Child's Life", "I Got To Be Myself", "People Come Out Of Your Shell", "When It Rains It Pours", "If It Wasn't For A Woman", and "Live In Love". (Soul, Gospel) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a promo stamp and a Previously Unreleased sticker.)
