Pierre Henry, Michel Vitold, & Sylvia MonfortL'Occident Est Bleu/L'An Cinquante-Six ... LP
Aurora Rising (Germany), 1958. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99
Mindblowing early music from Pierre Henry – a set that's like his other musique concrete from the postwar years, but which also features the added element of voice – as each side features a reading of a piece of text by Claude Pascal, with additional sounds from Henry! Henry uses electronics and other elements to score the readings with a brilliant sense of drama – maybe more tied to familiar structures than his other compositions of the period, but still incredibly offbeat – and working with the words here in a style that's similar to the electronics and effects used in the film La Jettee! Michel Vitold reads "L'Occident Est Bleu", and Sylvia Monfort reads "L'An Cinquante Six". Record also features two bonus instrumental tracks by Henry, both from the early 50s – "Vocalises" and "Diffus". (Out Sound, Comedy/Spoken) LP, Vinyl record album
