✨✧ Little BrotherMinstrel Show (Amended Album) ... LP
Atlantic/ABB, 2005. Used 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Little Brother transitions to the majors with their soulful underground sound intact – and deliver an effort that in the best moments improve upon the already classic Listening LP! It looks like this just isn't going to go over with the TRL crowd, despite the Atlantic logo. The soul sample vibe in general has seeped back onto the pop charts thanks to Kanye, but the prolific 9th Wonder's brand is of a much grittier stock, providing a rock solid, emotional soul foil for the rhymes of Phonte and Big Pooh. Honestly, as ubiquitous as 9th's production presence continues to be, there's still really no one else out there like Little Brother – which is another reason to celebrate. Like the golden era work by the prime movers of the Native Tongues, the Wu, and Organized Noize collectives, LB's sound is an instantly identifiable, singular signature that you just can't bite. Don't expect to hear a better full length hip hop album on a major label in '05. Tracks include an intro & outro feat Yahzarah, "Beautiful Morning", "The Becoming", "Not Enough", "Slow It Down" and "All For You" feat Darien Brockington, "Cheatin'", "Lovin It" feat Joe Scudda, "Watch Me", "Sincerely Yours", "Still Lives Through", "We Got Now" feat Chaundon and more! LP, Vinyl record album
(Clean edited promo in an Atlantic sleeve.)

Little BrotherChittlin Circuit 1.5 – Unreleased Tracks, B-Sides & Remixes ... CD
Fastlife, 2005. Used ... $7.99
A tasty helping of material from Justus League flagship Little Brother – who lit the underground ablaze a couple years ago with their debut on ABB – and hope to do the same in '05 when the Minstrel Show drops on Atlantic! Chitlin Circuit features unreleased tracks, remixes and b-sides – largely produced by 9th Wonder (natch) and Khrysis, with some guest turns by Nicolay and Young Guru. There's some damn strong s**t here – featuring the crew's signature soulful and string-laden funk production – with the tougher wordplay they've been rockin' in the couple of years since The Listening! 18 tracks in all: "War", "Third Party" feat Joe Scudda, "Honorable" feat Chaundon, "Yo-Yo (rmx)", "Nighttime Maneuvers" (rmx), "Altitudes", "Welcome To Durham" featuring Big Daddy Kane, "Flash And Flare" feat LEGACY, "Take It There", "The Beginning" feat Yahzarah and more! BeansTomorrow Right Now ... CD
Warp, 2003. Used ... $3.99
Beans hits the dirt first – here's the first post Antipop solo project. Like that crew's later work it's a lot better than us sample-loving hip hop purists want to admit – pretty much a continuation of Ahrythmia without the rest of the group. When Beans is rhyming – and for most of this LP he's right there – everything's on point. His flow is fast, smart, and crystal clear, and he has a playful way in which his delivery surrounds the beats. At his best he reminds us of recent Del. When he's sitting out on tracks, you're subjected to blips, bloops, and computer babble that's better left to the other artists on Warp. Tracks include "Roar", Phreek the Beat", "Mearle", "Raping Silence", "Toast", "Hot Venom", "Mutescreamer", Booga Sugar", "Slow Broken", and more. 14 tracks on one shiny disc. CD

✨✧ Kanye WestGraduation ... CD
Def Jam, 2007. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Kanye's tightest, most heavily synth soaked set yet – and possibly the best – a leap ahead for his evolving sound! Graduation gleams and shines more than it bounces on the bottom end, and if his LP titles to date overtly suggest that this caps off a trilogy – it really goes beyond the title – it's POST Graduation! By the end of Late Registration Kanye was dabbling in hip hop symphonies (for the better) with a few too many skits, but this one's all laser beam efficiency with a human heartbeat. Kanye's moved on, well past our expectations anyway, and he better not call the next one Class Reunion. A bunch of these cuts could rule several radio formats, and they sound great in the headphones, too. To tell the truth, any modern hip hop record with a big fat (and surely expensive) Steely Dan sample is going get an automatic recommendation from us, but Graduation works for us for many more reasons than that alone. Well done, Kanye! "Good Morning", "Champion", the Daft Punk-ed hit "Stronger", "I Wonder", "Good Life", "Can't Tell Me Me Nothing", "Barry Bonds" with Lil Wayne, "Drunk And Hot Girls" with Mos Def, "Flashing Lights" with Dwele, "Everything I Am" with DJ Premier, "Homecoming" and "Big Brother". CD

✨✧ TimbalandTim's Bio: From The Motion Picture: Life From Da Bassment ... LP
Blackground, 1998. Used 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Timbaland's first solo LP, with his signature syncopated beat style keeping things moving nicely. Whether you can get down with the commercial nature of his tracks or not, you have to admit Timbaland has been one of the driving forces in hip hop for the 90s and 00s. Guest rhymes by Jay Z, Mad Skillz, Ludacris, Nas, and of course Missy Elliott and Magoo. 19 tracks in all, including "I Get It On", "Here We Come", "Lobster & Scrimp", "What Cha Know About This", "Fat Rabbit", "Who Am I" and "3:30 In The Morning". ✨✧ Talib KweliGravitas ... LP
Javotti Media, 2014. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Modern mic legend Talib Kweli delivers once again – with busy, brilliant rhymes and diverse production backdrop – and appearances by guitarist Gary Clark Jr, Big KRIT, Raekwon, Abby Dobson, The Underachievers and more. Kweli has been killing mics since the 90s, and much to our appreciation he's still sounds like a hungry young gun after all these years – and proudly carrying the torch for mic centric hip hop. Includes "Inner Monologue", the standout "Demonology" with Big KRIT & Gary Clark Jr, "State Of Grace" feat Abby Dobson, "Violations" feat Raekwon, "New Leaders" feat The Underachievers, "The Wormhole", "What's Real" feat RES, "Art Imitates Life" feat Black Thought, Rah Digga and Albe Back, "Lover's Peak" and "Colors Of You" feat Mike Posner.
