Just Sold Out!
A mighty nice compilation – one album of vintage Decca country, including work by Milton Brown & His Musical Brownies, Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, and Johnny Lee Wills – and another record of more contemporary tracks by Red Steagall, Asleep At The Wheel, George Strait, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ed Bruce, and others. LP, Vinyl record album
A teeny tiny little label from late 50s Georgia – but one that cut some wonderful music in its few short years on the planet! Peach Records issued some sides to bigger labels like Decca or Starday – but at their core, they had a great roster of local talent that included both rockabilly acts and hillbilly boppers – all recorded with a raw, lean sound that still holds up wonderfully over the years! Lots of this work is in that special space between early rock and country – with some of the twang of the latter, but lots of the sneer of the former – and plenty of grit in the grooves to make these sides live again after the passage of decades. The set features notes on the label and the artists, and label scans of most of the rare singles too – and the package features 32 titles that include "Wahoo" by Arnold Bennett, "Red Light" by The Dandies, "The World Belongs To Me" by Olen Little, "The Cats Were Jumpin" by John Worthan, "Rockin The Guitar" by Jay Brown & The Jets, "China Doll" by Dappa Smith, "I'm In A Daze" by Lewis Pruitt & The True Lads, and "You've Always Got A Frown" by Ramblin Red Bailey. (Nice heavy vinyl and a small insert inside the cover!)
