Rob Franken Electrification —
Absorbed Love ... LP 678 Records (Netherlands), Mid 70s. New Copy ...
$24.99
Pianist Rob Franken left this planet all too soon – passing away in his early 40s in 1983 – but during the 70s, he recorded a wealth of fantastic sessions on the Dutch jazz scene – including this rare batch of tracks that are issued here for the first time ever! The tunes are all keyboard instrumentals, with Rob on both electric piano and some more electronic modes – working in small combo formats with either Eef Albers or Joop Scholten on guitars – both of whom are excellent players who bring plenty to the rhythms while Franken really lets loose on his solos – then step into the groove with some great solos of their own! The work here is right up there with our favorite keyboard jazz of the 70s – with plenty of elements that raise these grooves up to the level of classics by Bob James, Deodato, or Herbie Hancock – and titles include the originals "Rob's Hit", "Escape", "Hard Beat", "Loadstone", and "Absorbed Love" – plus covers of "The Anderson Tapes", "Blow Up", and "Red Baron".
