Sugarloaf, 1980. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A killer album of breezy Brazilian jazz from San Francisco! The group was an obscure one, but they worked for many years as part of the underground Brazilian scene in SF – home to some bigger known players who often recorded on Fantasy Records, and smaller combos like this one, who could still cook it up nicely! You probably know the track "Skindo-Le-Le" from the classic Luv N Haight comp Feeling Good – but there's a full album's worth of great cuts, all with the cool breezy west coast Brazilian feel that was the group's trademark style. There's bits of electric playing in the group, but the core sound is sort of a floating acoustic one – riding away in jazzy little grooves, often with vocals in the lead. Joe Henderson guest stars on the track "Lemanja", and the LP includes the tracks "O Bode", "Voce Absou", "Ronco Da Cuica", and "Menina Danada". CD
