Palmeira ... LP Pharaway Sounds (Spain), 1983. New Copy (reissue)...
Just Sold Out!
Beautiful Brazilian jazz from the European scene – done in a warm blend of acoustic modes that's totally great! The set's got a bit less fusion focus than some of its contemporaries – as Palmeira's instrumentation is heavy on percussion and acoustic guitar – all tied together with just a bit of Fender bass, which helps the tunes bounce along beautifully in a sunny, joyous sort of groove! Like other European takes on Brazilian jazz, the style's different than anything you might find coming out of Rio at the time – an extrapolation on some of the best classic ideas, served up with a style that's even more rootsy and authentic than some of the electric Brazilian fusion of the time. Vocals are by Jehanne and Jeanette Van Der Pligt – both of whom are mixed down alongside the instrumentation – and titles include "Tapajos", "Living In More Than One Way", "Telephone", "Trilhos Urbanos", "Amanhecer", and "Na Baixa Do Sapateiro".
