✨✧ Pierre HenryL'Apocalypse ... CD
Universal (France), 1968. New Copy 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
The complete five part version of Pierre Henry's amazing "L'Apocalypse De Jean" – recorded in 1968, but presented here for the first time ever in its entirety! The expanded recording further takes off from the dark, spooky quality of the shorter original – with a sublime mix of low-end noise and other sounds, all in that groundbreaking Henry electronic spirit of the 60s. Jean Negroni delivers spoken passages between all the electronics – and the five passages bear the subheadings of "Dans L'Adoration Le Livre Aux Sept Sceaux Est Recu", "Les Premieres Detresses Le Septime Sceau Et Les Sept Trompettes", "Les Sept Signes", "Les Six Coupes", and "Le Judgement". ✨✧ Steve ReichRadio Rewrite/Electric Counterpoint/Piano Counterpoint ... CD
Nonesuch, 2014. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Three different pieces by the great Steve Reich – including one world premiere! The title of the CD refers to the longest work here – "Radio Rewrite", a compelling composition based around themes from the music of Radiohead – which are then really abstracted by Reich, and taken into a sublime instrumental setting! The music is performed by the Alarm Will Sound ensemble, conducted by Alan Piersen – with instrumentation that includes two sets of vibes, two pianos, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and viola. That piece alone is worth the price of admission – but the set also includes a great new recording of Reich's "Electric Counterpoint" – performed by Johnny Greenwood on electric guitar – and the solo piano "Piano Counterpoint", which is a new variation on Reich's "Six Pianos" from 1973. Definitely a highlight in the Steve Reich catalog – one of the best CDs of his music in years! CD
