✨✧ VariousPulp Fusion Revival Boogie Down – Original Revival Ghetto Jazz & Funk Classics ... CD
Harmless (UK), 1970s/1980s. Used 2CD ... $8.99
The Pulp Fusion series makes a funky move towards the dancefloor – shifting from its earlier blend of older funk and jazz tunes into a more club-styled set that features some wonderful boogie groovers! The overall sound is still quite funky, but compiler DJ Pogo has opened the mix to including some excellent bits from the end of the 70s – tracks that were some of the heavier numbers of the disco era, and which show that funk made a great transition to the dancefloor during the time! There's still some choice older bits of funk, but the later tracks actually really are what make this set a great one – opening the sound up a lot past oft-sampled classics. 2CD set features 1 disc that's mixed live by DJ Pogo, plus 1 disc of unmixed tracks – featuring 13 titles that include "You Can't Hide" by David Joseph, "Candy" by Cameo, "Love Will Bring Us Back Together" by Roy Ayers, "You Bet Your Love" by Herbie Hancock, "Touch Me" by Wish & Fonda Rae, "Bounce Rock Skate Roll (part 1)" by Vaughan Mason & Crew, "Dance Across The Floor" by Jimmy Bo Horne, "Gonna Make You Mine" by Loose Ends, "Turn The Music Up" by Players Association, "Do It To The Music" by Raw Silk, and "Flashlight" by Parliament. ✨✧ VariousBlue Note Street ... CD
Blue Note (Japan), 2007. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Blue Note classics, replayed here by some of the best artists on the Japanese groove scene – including some of the key club jazz combos who've been inspired by the older work on the label! The collection is really wonderful – proof that the Blue Note groove is not only alive and well into the 21st Century, but also has plenty of room for new interpretation and new modes of jazz expression! Some of the tracks here feature electronics, beats, and dancefloor production – but just as many sparkle with the kind of spontaneous, acoustic instrumentation that Blue Note gave the world back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. CD features remakes of work by Hank Mobley, Moacir Santos, Marlena Shaw, Kenny Dorham, Herbie Hancock, and others – and titles include "Avila & Tequila" by Sunaga T Experience, "Mode To John" by Soil & Pimp Sessions, "Off & On" by Kyoto Jazz Massive, "Afrodisia" by DJ Muro, "Street Walkin Woman" by Jazztronik, "Night In Tunisia" by Toshio Matsuura Group, "Cleopatra's Dream" by Home Grown, and "Maiden Voyage" by DJ Kawasaki. ✨✧ VariousLife:Styles Bugz In The Attic ... CD
Harmless (UK), 1970s/Early 80s. Used 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A massive massive groove party from Bugz In The Attic – one that's overflowing with sweet 70s jazz, funk, and soul! This may well be our favorite entry in the Life:Styles series so far – and it's certainly the most unified collection, thanks to a keen ear for a mellow-grooving classic track! The overall feel almost takes us back to the great sound of the legendary Capitol Rare compilations – and the territory here is very similar, with a strong focus on jazz-inflected soul tunes from the end of the 70s and early 80s – of the sort we never tire of hearing! The whole thing's a modern soul lover's delight – and the 2CD set features a whopping 20 tracks in all, including "Endless Flight" by Rodney Franklin, "Chicago" by Roy Ayers, "Think" by Carole Sylvan, "Gonna Make You Mine" by Loose Ends, "Come For The Ride" by Tom Browne, "Sweet Thing" by Convertion, "In My Dreams" by Will Downing, "Come To Me" by Jermaine Jackson, "Heavy Love Affair" by Marvin Gaye, "Good Lovin Is Good Livin" by Creative Source, "I Choose You" by Paris, "Sunshowers" by Dr Buzzard, "I Feel Like Lovin You Today" by Donald Byrd, "Sun Touch" by Herbie Hancock, and "Gamblers Life" by Johnny Hammond.
