BCGStreet Talk (unedited main theme, variation I, variation II) ... 12-inch
20th Century, 1976. Very Good+ ... $6.99
The BCG is the Bob Crewe Generation – a sweet 70s disco ensemble led by the 60s soundtrack king. Here, they've got a tightly percolated sound that reminds us of Barry White at his best – strings soaring over strong syncopation, with some chorus female vocals bubbling in amidst the glossy funky mix. Very nice, and with a wonderful classic club feel! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in a stickered sleeve.)

Grey & HanksDancin/How Can You Live Without Love ... 12-inch
RCA, 1978. Very Good ... $2.99
Two nice ones from the smooth soul team of Grey & Hanks! "Dancin" is an uptempo groover – as you'd guess by the title – but with a smooth sound that keeps the proceedings nice and soulful. "How Can You Life" is a mellower tune – a nice little stepper with a righteous approach that almost reminds us of DJ Rogers! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Dan HartmanInstant Replay (original, replayed) ... 12-inch
Blue Sky, 1978. Very Good+ ... $0.99
A high-stepping disco classic from Dan Hartman – a tune that certainly crossed over big at the time, and which still stands today as a great reminder that even when things were in a more friendly mode on the dancefloor in the 70s, they could still be pretty darn great. Served up here in a special Tom Moulton mix, too! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Liquid LiquidLiquid Liquid EP ... 12-inch
99 Records/Superior Viaduct, Early 80s. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... $13.99
A groundbreaking little record – and one that's hardly ever been matched again! Liquid Liquid sprang onto the scene with this amazing debut EP for 99 Records – a set that's got a wicked blend of funky drums, post-punk darkness, and this cool criss-crossing of modes that perfectly sums up the genius of the New York scene at the time! The record features lots of percussion throughout – drums, roto toms, congas, and plenty more – mixed with these brooding basslines that remind us of Jah Wobble at his best, and echoey production that almost feels like an American take on Martin Hannett at his best – especially at those moments when weird, eerie vocals drift through the instrumentation, barely at the edge of hearing. Titles include the classic "Bellhead" – plus "Groupmegroup", "Rubbermiro", "Lub Dupe", and "New Walk". 12-inch, Vinyl record

Liquid LiquidSuccessive Reflexes EP ... 12-inch
99 Records/Superior Viaduct, 1981. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... $13.99
An incredible piece of percussive work by the always-enigmatic Liquid Liquid! The record is one of their sparest, and has more hard drumming than others – less of a dance-oriented groove, and a very experimental vibe that reminds us of the group's unique role on the New York scene! There's lots of New York downtown elements running through here – from percussion breaks, to ESG-like jamming, to bits of post-prog, Can-like drumming – which stretches out in this really cool, really dark way. Instrumentation includes marimba, roto toms, sawblades, metalphones, berimbau, and even a bit of bass clarinet from Elliott Sharp. Possibly the best of their records – with the cuts "Push", "Eyes Sharp", "Zero Leg", and the 2-part "Lock Groove". 12-inch, Vinyl record

Favorite (France), 2016. New Copy ... $13.99
A wicked boogie from from Magic Source – a contemporary recording, but one with a classic sort of vibe! That quality's no surprise, given that Bjorn Wagner's at the head – fresh from experience in the Mighty Mocambos, but showing much more of a late 70s club style here – with lots of snapping percussion, sweet keyboard lines, a sax solo, and female chorus vocals – almost making the whole thing sound like some of the grooviest French club tracks from years back! The original gets three remixes, too – all a bit more modern, but plenty nice. (New Grooves, Soul) 12-inch, Vinyl record

James MasonDance Of Life/Up Jump ... 12-inch
Rush Hour (Netherlands), Late 70s. New Copy (pic cover)... $14.99
Two rare tracks from the legendary James Mason – both from the years when he was recording his seminal Rhythm Of Life album – appearing here on vinyl for the first time ever! "Dance Of Life" is tremendous – just the kind of soaring, spiritual number we love from James – a post-Mizell blend of soul, jazz,a nd cosmic energy – with these wonderful lead vocals from Clarice Taylor that glide through the skies on waves of Fender Rhodes and percussion, plus drums from Bernard Purdie! "Up Jump" is slightly different – given its use of a drum machine – with a sweet electro vibe that includes some vocoder bits – but which also get accompaniment from a vocal chorus in the true Mason mode! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Includes bonus insert!)

James MasonNight Gruv (main, unreleased longer edit)/I Want Your Love ... 12-inch
Rush Hour (Netherlands), 1984. New Copy (reissue)... $14.99
A killer bit of jazz funk from the great James Mason! The cut's an old one – but has never been properly issued before, save for a brief appearance on a 12" single in 1996. "I Want Your Love" is our favorite here – over 11 minutes long, and it begins with this cool building moog/drum part that reminds us a lot of the excellent work on tracks like "Sweet Power" and "Free". The cut's got some female vocals that come into the mix about 1/3 of the way through – and they really help the track build its vibe as it goes along! Single also features "Night Gruv", which has a lot more modern sound, with jazzy keyboards over a pounding midtempo groove, a spacey insistent groove that has the feel of some of the best jazzy Detroit electronic sounds. 12-inch, Vinyl record
