Junkfood & Enrico GabrielliItalian Masters (deep red vinyl pressing) ... LP
Cinedelic (Italy), 2016. New Copy (reissue)... $28.99
No junk here – as this hip instrumental group take on the sounds of three Italian soundtrack masters – Ennio Morricone, Piero Umilani, and Armando Trovajoli – all while offering up some very unusual interpretations of their work! The songs are familiar, but the instrumentation is a nice change from simple recasting on keyboards – and instead, these guys use guitar as much as they do some of the older elements – often with some fuzz that brings a current of darkness to the tunes that even exceeds some of the originals! The approach is a bit like that of some of the work on the Cineploit label, but this group is a bit more fully-formed – with trumpet, flute, and bass clarinet from Enrico Gabrielli – and the album also features guest vocals from Edda Dell'Orso on one track too. Titles include "C'Eravamo Tanto Amati", "Masquerade", "Eat It", "Silenzio Nel Caos", "Per Un Pugno Di Dollari", "Gassman Blues", "The Body", and "Conflitti". (Sound Library, New Grooves) LP, Vinyl record album
