LP, Vinyl record album

A set of tracks from Galt MacDermot's musical Dude – co-written with Hair lyricist Jerome Ragni, and featuring vocals by Salome Bey (of Andy & The Bey Sisters fame!) Galt did the music, and the group includes him, Bernard Purdie, Cornell Dupree, and has backup vocals by Cissy Houston and Joshie Armstead – all working nicely together in a style that's got some righteous touches that give the album a nice sort of Atlantic 70s soul sound. Salome sings deep and soulfully – in a mode that recalls her work with the Bey Sisters group, but in a mode that's more soul-based – and tracks include "Boo Boo", "Happy Song", "Jazz Bridge", "At Home", "No One", and "A Garden For Two".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

For The Good Times
Prestige, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
One of Rusty Bryant's last albums for Prestige – recorded in that more-electric mode that graced the label's albums of the year 1973 – but in a style that's still pretty darn nice! The group's still a small combo – with Rusy on tenor and alto, plus with Hank Jones on electric ... LP, Vinyl record album

A beautifully sensitive album from Donald Byrd – quite a change from his better-known jazz funk work of the 70s and early 80s – and part of a back-to-basics move he made in part of that latter decade! A subtle gem from Bobby Hutcherson's wonderful years on Landmark Records – a point when he was really getting back to basics, and cutting some great straight work that almost hearkened back to his 60s gems on Blue Note! An incredible record from Bobby Hutcherson – easily one of his best of the 80s, and with some great touches that recall his best 70s work! A sweet little set from Houston Person – a record that's a nice return to basics, much needed after some of his overproduced sessions of the mid 70s! A late date for Woody Shaw, but a great one too – a bit more straightforward than some of his more righteous albums of the 70s, but still proof that Shaw is easily one of the greatest trumpeters of his generation!
