A seminal bit of funky Afrojazz from the DC scene of the 70s! The album features work by percussionist Okyerema Asante, and also includes sax work by Plunky Nakabinde – best known as the leader of the group Oneness Of Juju. Plunky's influence can really be felt strongly on the set – and the record has much of the sound of the first two Oneness albums, which were also issued on Black Fire. Lots of funky fusion, with a few really nice drumbreaks, and an excellent spiritual vibe throughout the entire set! Includes the tracks "Asante Sana", "Sabi", "Play A Sweet Rhythm On Them Drums", and "Never Fly Away From The Funk".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

The coolest collection of Peruvian grooves we've ever seen – one that gets past some of the straighter psych and Latin moments to focus on the funkier grooves of the Lima scene! Most work here is late 60s/early 70s vintage – and although many of the groups are rooted in rock, they're ... CD

With a singer this obscure, you might take the word "essential" in the title a bit loosely – but the set is a stunning batch of work from this popular Thai vocalist of the 70s! Dao Bandon's voice is amazing right from the start, even if you can't understand the language (although ... CD

We've really liked Somi's previous records, but here she's somehow even better than before – more soulful, jazzier, and with this sort of universal appeal that has his loving the record from the very first note!
