Forward Look

LP (Item 720955) Reference Recordings, 1957 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
A hi-fidelity issue of a live set recorded on New Years Eve in 1957 – featuring a combo with Jerry Dodgion on saxes, Jimmy Wyble on guitar, Red Wooten on bass, John Markham on drums, and Red Norvo on vibes! All tracks are nice and long – different than most of Red's studio work of the time!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light surface wear and a tiny top seam split.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Red Norvo

Move!
Savoy, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Great 50s material from Red Norvo – recorded with Tal Farlow on guitar and Charles Mingus on bass! The drum-less combination of vibes, guitar, and bass makes for an almost-exotic approach – one that rings out with some new moods and tones on tracks that are old standards – in a ... Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Near Mint-
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Water Babies
Columbia, 1976. Near Mint-
A much different album than you might expect from the cover – hardly the funky 70s set implied by the Big Fun-styled cover – and instead a lost slice of work from his groundbreaking late 60s years! The set was recorded in 1967, but unissued until Miles late 70s time away from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Kind Of Blue
Columbia, 1959. Near Mint-
What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the wildest albums ever recorded by French tenorist Barney Wilen – a mix of avant jazz and sound effects, set to wax in tribute to Lorenzo Bandini – a famous Italian racer who died tragically during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix! This session shouldn't work, but it does – and beautifully! Horace Silver

Silver 'N Brass
Blue Note, 1975. Sealed
A beautifully soulful set from Horace Silver – hardly the "with brass" session you might guess from the title, and instead a well-integrated album that really showcases a new level of arranging genius from Horace! Ramsey Lewis

Wade In The Water
Cadet, 1966. Very Good+
Classic pop soul jazz from the inventor of the genre! A great little album by Roy Ayers – one that features none of his hits, which means lots of fresh material – and which has great examples of both sides of Roy's talents at the time!
