(Black label stereo pressing with deep groove. Includes the Philips inner sleeve, with bent corners.)
Near Mint - (minus)
Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
One of the greatest albums ever cut by Swedish vocalist Monica Zetterlund – a landmark album that has her singing with the Bill Evans Trio! The album was recorded in 1964, with a spare sound that's quite different from most of Monica's other work. As usual, her vocals are wonderfully cool ... LP, Vinyl record album
Don't let the "broadway" or the "blues" or the "ballads" in the title put you off – because this album's way more than any of those – one of those key 60s records that have Nina Simone taking familiar material and investing it with a new sort of righteous ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantastic stuff – and a key example of the penetration of psychoanalysis in the US during the postwar years! The tunes here are all vocal parodies of familiar themes from Freud – sung by Katie Lee in a way that's a bit jazz, but possibly a bit folksy too – very playful at times, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bossa with a great American twist! Nancy Ames was an American pop singer of the 60s – one who did mostly folksy tunes with a light California feel, and who here is coming up with some great bossa nova numbers, set to arrangements by Stu Phillips! The package has all the sunniness of a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Although Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross started out their career singing vocalese versions of Basie tunes, they do a pretty darn great job here with Ellington – in fact, maybe even better, given the sophistication of the tracks. And while the album lacks some of the whimsy of the wonderful ... LP, Vinyl record album
A really amazing set of recordings – vocal sessions done by Fred Astaire in the later season of his career – recorded in the studio with intimate backing by a Verve group that includes Oscar Peterson, Barney Kessel, Charlie Shavers, and Flip Phillips! The material features lovely new ... LP, Vinyl record album
Ernestine Anderson at the height of her powers – caught during a very successful run at Concord Records, where she was easily one of the hippest things going down at the time! The group here is a trio, and very tight – Hank Jones on piano, Monty Budwig on bass, and Jeff Hamilton on ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the hippest takes ever on the Porgy & Bess score – done in duet format by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, in a fuller spirit than their other albums for Verve! Like many late 50s albums of Gershwin's score, this one was issued in advance of the film with Sidney Poitier – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nice material from a very under-recorded period in Chris Connor's career – with arrangements by Pat Rebillot and Alyn Ainesworth – on titles that include "The Long & Winding Road", "Hit Em In The Head With Love", "Time & Love", "Buy & ... LP, Vinyl record album
An early album by Shirley, and a haunting batch of lonely songs of lost love that has Shirley singing with her trio of Joe Benjamin and Herb Lovelle. The material's very much in keeping with the "classic" sound that's been so popular during her recent revival, and the record stands as ... LP, Vinyl record album
