A set recorded recently in France – but done with the freewheeling spirit of the AACM in Chicago back in the 70s! The performance features reed work by two key later components of the AACM – Nicole Mitchell on some soaring, spiritual flute – a few varieties of the instrument, played in some of her best free modes – and Hanah Jon Taylor, a lesser-remembered player from the movement – but one who really kept the fires burning in the 80s, and returns to greatness here on tenor, soprano sax, flute, and a cool "electronic valve instrument"! Drummer Denis Fournier leads the group, and provides lots of vital energy – as does Tomeka Reid on cello and Bernard Santacruz on bass. Titles include "Prayer For Wadud", "La Voce De La Luna", "Dannie Richmond", and "Le Partage Des Eaux".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Teichiku/Think (Japan), 1977. New Copy
A tremendous burner from Japanese drummer Takeo Moriyama – a really freewheeling set that rolls out with the kind of post-Coltrane energy that may well make Moriyama the Japanese equivalent of Elvin Jones! The drums are fantastic throughout – but the real star of the set may well be ... CD
