Maurice Jarre's wonderfuls core for Topaz – one of the last great films from Alfred Hitchcock! The music is quite a change from some of the more bracing sounds you'd normally associate with classic Hitchcock – as Jarre comes up with this light and lovely theme that's interwoven through a number of different readings – a perfect European 60s soundtrack mode to fit the espionage setting of the film – carried off through some gentle woodwind passages, keyboards, and darker orchestrations. As things move on, a bit more shadow creeps into the music – yet things always return to a redemptive mode – in a way that's always been one of the best qualities of Jarre's classic scores. Titles include "From Copenhagen To Washington", "Suspicion", "The Hidden Microfilm", "Secret Identity", "Betrayal", "Main Title", and "French Embassy".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
