Sublime work from Noel Pointer – a set that sparkles equally from both his soul and jazz talents! The record's a perfect example of the way that key artists like Pointer were blending R&B and fusion at the end of the 70s – really perfecting earlier experiments of cats like Norman Connors or Johnny Hammond, and coming up with a style that not only brings a lot of depth to mainstream soul, but which also helps save fusion from some of its more overindulgent tendencies! The core sounds are mixed with some nice strings on some of the album's best tracks – giving the set a great sense of class and sophistication that really helps it transcend the usual – while other numbers stick tight to the kind of Capitol Rare grooving that Pointer was always great at – sweet mellow groovers and steppers that have made the record a classic for years. Titles include "Tween The Lines", "Love Is", "Calling", "Take A Look", "As Long As I Know", "Morning Song", "Higher Than Heaven", and "Precious Pearl".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
