Tight salsa from El Gran Combo – and a record that has a slightly different feel than some of their other 70s efforts, thanks to a bit of added tres! The guitar-like instrument brings a nice sense of tradition to the record – that nod back to the roots of Latin that other 70s groups were doing in the Fania scene – an approach that really works well here for El Gran Combo, as it only seems to deepen their already-great sound. Miguel Cruz handles the tres, and also the bass – and titles include "Los Sorullos", "Desenfunda", "El Tabaco", "Bomba Pa Gozar", "Con La Misma Cosa", "Siempre Alegre", "Que Me Handado", and "El Jolgorio". (Cover has some splitting on the top seam and a center split on the bottom seam.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Solid State, 1969. Very Good- Gatefold
Stone lost Latin funk! This one's Candido's rarest – and it's a killer batch of conga-heavy grooves, recorded in the late 60s for Solid State, and featuring a very groovy set of mod Latin arrangements by Joe Cain. The band features organ, guitar, bass, horns, and some upfront conga solos ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the best later albums from Joe Bataan – a really wonderful little set that takes off strongly from the salsoul experiments he first began on the Afrofilipino album! The album's got a great blend of clubby rhythms and Latin soul touches – all arranged by Marty Sheller, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Westbound, 1975. Good Gatefold
A tasty little album from Funkadelic – one that has Bootsy Collins joining the group, and really hitting the unique approach that would become the definitive P-Funk groove! And although tracks are shorter and even more focused, there's still a fair bit of guitar in the set – keeping ... LP, Vinyl record album
