A great document of an amazing blues tradition – bottleneck guitar, offered up here in a host of original 78s from the 30s! The style is one that was co-opted often in later years, but is presented here at its roots – with a nice, gritty feel overall – and use of the mode that's still pretty darn fresh, and free of cliche. Side one features tracks by Casey Bill Weldon – including "Hitch Me To Your Buggy", "Back Door Blues", "Lady Doctor Blues", "The Big Boat", and "Go Ahead Buddy" – and side two features cuts by Kokomo Arnold, including "Salty Dog", "Feels So Good", "Busy Bootin", "The Twelves", and "I'll Be Up Someday". Great Robert Crumb cover – and the usual detailed Yazoo notes!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Blues
Mainstream, 1950/1951. New Copy (reissue)
Great vintage recordings from Lightning Hopkins – initially recorded by producer Bob Shad on his trips to the south in the early 50s, then later issued on Shad's label Mainstream in the 60s! Groove Merchant, 1971. New Copy (reissue)
A fitting title to this one – as it virtually describes the standard that the blues business was operating on during the early 70s – as artists came out of the shadows and found big audiences on college campuses, rock clubs, and other crossover scenes! The concept is carried to the Nth ... LP, Vinyl record album

Burnin'
Vee Jay, 1962. New Copy (reissue)
Plenty of Burnin from John Lee Hooker, and about as classic as you can get for his Vee Jay years – especially considering that the album starts out with Hooker's killer cut "Boom Boom" – a number that may well have set fire to a whole generation of British and American rockers! ... A long-overdue recognition of the blues contributions of Willie Dixon – a set that pulls him out of the indie ghetto and pushes him firmly into the mainstream with this key release on Columbia Records! Rough-edged blues from the west side of Chicago – a stone classic from the mighty Magic Sam – a player who was taken from us all too soon! On the west side, they mix plenty of soul in with their blues – and you can definitely hear that on this stone smoker – a record that ... LP, Vinyl record album

L'Orchestre Sidi Yassa De Kays
Mali Kunkan/Kindred Spirits (Netherlands), 1977. New Copy (reissue)
The one and only album by Mali's Sidi Yassa De Kayes – a beautiful group who really transcend any easy labels or genre conventions!
