An excellent live set by the Jazz Messengers – recorded in Paris in 1958, but with a hard heavy groove that's right up there with their best Blue Note work from the US! The group at th is time plays hard, heavy, and straight ahead – no surprise, given that the lineup is killer – with a young Lee Morgan on trumpet and Bobby Timmons on piano, plus tenor from Benny Golson – who was making a key appearance with the group during this time. Golson's writing is definitely a part of the group's sound here – but Timmons' influence is definitely felt, too – and titles include "Moanin", "Justice", "Just By Myself", "I Remember Clifford", and "Are You Real". CD also features the bonus cuts "Whisper Not" and "Blues March".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

2 funky classics from the legendary Pretty Purdie! Purdie Good is Bernard Purdie's first album as a leader for Prestige – cut right after he'd hipped up plenty of other sessions for the label with his famous funky drums! The groove here is very much in the best Prestige jazz funk mode of ... CD
