4.70 2

Great session cut by Milton in the US, with a feel that's similar to Courage, his other great US/A&M album, done in the late 60s. The sound here's a bit more modern than that one, and the group is graced by some excellent guests, like Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Airto, Raul De Souza, and Toninho Horta. Tracks include "Raca", "The Call", "Os Povos", and a nice remake of the classic "Cravo E Canela".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Look Around
A&M, 1967. Used
Dreamy bossa pop from the A&M studios of the 60s – the Brasil 66 sound at its best! The style here is a perfect blend of real Brazilian influences and some of the hipper styles bubbling in the LA studio scene of the time – all locked together perfectly by Sergio Mendes, in the twin- ... CD

Verve, 1963. Used
Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic Verve session from 1963 – a tremendous record, done with a wonderful airy sound that became the trademark for bossa production in America – and which also had a great inspiration on the sound of mid 60s bossa in Brazil! Claus Ogerman arranged and conducts ... CD

Batucada (Japanese pressing)
Verve (Japan), 1967. Used
One of our favorite Walter Wanderley albums ever – and a record that moves past the more familiar bossa trio style used on his hits for Verve, into groovier new territory with added players who include Dom Um Romao on drums and Marcos Valle on guitar! And not only is the lineup expanded, but ... CD

Fool On The Hill
A&M/Verve, 1968. Used
One of our favorite albums by Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – a perfect bridge between the simple pop of earlier records, and the group's expanding sound as the 70s approached! The warmly glowing Brasil 66 style is still very strongly in place, but the music here is all a bit hipper – ... CD

Personalidade
Verve, 1987. Used
Brazilian "greatest hits" comp of Caetano's work, with a majority of material from the late 70's and early 80's, but also with a few cuts from the late 60's Tropicalia years. Every cut's a winner, though – with the high high level of imagination that you'd expect from Caetano! ... CD

Brazsil
Blue Jackel, 1998. Used
A richly arranged set of tracks with a very jazzy feel, in a style that we might almost call a 90's updating of the classic early 70's work by Edu Lobo or Egberto Gismonti. Daniel Taubkin shares Lobo's ability to create large orchestrations that float lightly along through a range of styles, never ... CD

Studies In Bossa
Far Out (UK), 2011. Used
An excellent debut from Rio-raised, London-based Raf Vilar on Far Out – breezy, airy melodies and light arrangements with enough classic bossa craft to stand the test of time!
