A damn good record by Q-Tip – his first official album of the new millenium (not counting the unfairly mooted Kamaal The Abstract) – featuring both spacey keyboard grooves and some Native Tongues style boom bap! Q-Tip really does kind of pick up where he could have left off years ago, and it's a reward of our faith in him that it's still fresh after all these years, without drastically altering the formula. The key may be the focus – it's a filler free affair with solid track after solid track. Q-Tip handles most of the production – utilizing a bed of deep samples, groovy keys and head nodding beats. Q-Tip is in fine, relaxed form here, nothing left to prove. Here's hoping he records more often from here on on out! Titles include "Johnny Is Dead", "Won't Trade" (a should be classic single), "Getting' Up", "Official", "You", "We Fight/We Love" feat Raphael Saadiq, "Move", "Dance On Glass", "Life Is Better" feat Norah Jones, , "Believe" feat D'Angelo, "Shaka" and more. (Booklet has some rippling from water.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

"I rap with the Passion of Christ, Ni**a, cross me!" BE isn't exactly a back-to-basics LP in the vein of his classic work for Relativity – but it is indeed a return to a focused, genuinely soulful, no BS approach – and it's a very welcome one at that! It seems like Com was a ... CD
