Rock & Cry

LP (Item 43914) Atlantic/Charly (UK), Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
Classic Clyde McPhatter work from the post-Drifters years – 16 great Atlantic recordings! Tracks include "Thirty Days", "Treasure Of Love", "Just To Hold My Hand", "Come What May", "A Lover's Question", "You Went Back On Your Word", and "Deep Sea Ball".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 80s issue. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, Early 60s. Very Good+
Well, these are Clyde's greatest hits – but all of them were originally recorded for Atlantic or King (with the Drifters and the Dominoes), and this Mercury album features all new versions recorded during the early 60s. Still, Clyde's still in pretty nice form, and the new versions have a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wilson Pickett

Best Of Wilson Pickett
Atlantic, Late 60s. Very Good+
Hard heavy soul from The Wicked Pickett – and virtually a blueprint for the heavier sound of Muscle Shoals to come – as Wilson Pickett was to that soul scene what Otis Redding had been to the Memphis world of Stax Records! These aren't Wilson's first recordings – but as with ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1958. Very Good+

Average White Band

Average White Band
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good
AWB's first for Atlantic – and a nice slice of funk that proves that they can mix it up with the best groups of the 70s! The record's got plenty of sweet electric keyboards over smooth funky basslines – and as the years go by, the band's white boy vocals don't sound nearly as bad as we ... LP, Vinyl record album

Trammps

Disco Inferno
Atlantic, 1976. Very Good
A landmark album from The Trammps – and a record that broke the group firmly out of the Philly ghetto, yet still carried all the best touches of the Sigma scene! Sure, the title track was a super-huge hit – thanks to a plug in Saturday Night Fever – but the record itself is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Narada Michael Walden

Dance Of Life
Atlantic, 1979. Very Good
One of Narada Michael Walden's tighter records of the 70s – a tight batch of soul tracks that steps off of his spiritual roots into a sound that points the way towards 80s groove! Narada's on piano and percussion, as well as vocals – and the rest of the group grooves heavily in a mix ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roberta Flack

Chapter Two
Atlantic, 1970. Very Good+
Mindblowing work from Roberta Flack – an album that should be in the collection of any fan of righteous soul music! Roberta Flack still sounding great in the early 80s – co-produced with Ralph MacDonald, William Eaton, and William Salter – who all give the record a nice jazzy finish! Wild Tchoupitoulas

Wild Tchoupitoulas
Island, 1976. Near Mint-
A great slice of New Orleans soul from the 70s – a record that replicates the "Indian" culture in the Mardi Gras scene – and which is most notable for featuring work by The Meters as well! The groove here is kind of Meters-styled funk, mixed with some fuller New Orleans mode ... LP, Vinyl record album
