One of Otis Redding's greatest LPs! Unlike some of his others – which either had some filler, some gimmicks, or were collections of material released after his death – this one is a totally solid batch of southern soul tracks that ranks with some of the best work to come out of Memphis during the 60s. The record features some real gems – originals by Redding like "Hey Hey Baby", "Security", "These Arms Of Mine", "Something Is Worrying Me", and "That's What My Heart Needs" – plus some great covers, like "The Dog", "Pain In My Heart", and "I Need Your Lovin".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album
Casablanca, 1976. New Copy (reissue)
An oft-overlooked gem from Parliament – released during the year 1976, and sometimes hidden between monster LPs like Funkentelechy and Mothership Connection – but every bit as great as those two classics! The album's got that tightened-up P-Funk sound that was working so perfectly at ... LP, Vinyl record album
Executive Suite 1
Polydor, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
A gem of a full-length set from Executive Suite – a Philly quartet who are probably best known for their singles in the 70s, but who really find a great way to open up here in the course of an expanded album! Some of the tracks are nice and long – done in a two-part style that really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1969. New Copy (reissue)
Excellent early work from Clarence Carter – recording here with production and arrangements by Rick Hall – in that sweet Muscle Shoals style that never sounded better than it did with Clarence! A killer-diller bit of essential funk – the only full album cut by Maceo with James Brown production! The set's got Maceo coming back strongly into the JB fold, with a fierce array of funky cuts that kick it every bit as hard as the best JBs work of the time. No surprise, the JBs are ... Soul Finger
Volt, 1965. New Copy (reissue)
One of the best instrumental records to come out of Memphis, and a real kicker by the funky band that went down with Otis Redding in the tragic plane crash in 1968! The leadoff track is the group's amazing hit "Soul Finger", a stormin' instrumental with a wailing brassy sound that ... LP, Vinyl record album
Volt, 1966. New Copy (reissue)
Some rare early Memphis soul material by this legendary Stax combo! The sound of the recording is a bit rawer than most of the stuff we know by them, but their harmonies are great all the way through, with that hard Memphis soul sound that always made them so great! It features the earliest ... LP, Vinyl record album

Flying Dutchman/BGP (UK), 1971. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
Our favorite-ever album from Gil Scott-Heron – and a set that we'd easily rank as one of our favorite soul records of the 70s! Flying Start
BGP (UK), 1974. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
Not the band's first album – as you might think from the "start" in the title – but a classic batch of jazzy, funky, and soulful grooves from The Blackbyrds – one of those combos that few groups could match back in the 70s! The set's got a beautifully put-together feel ... LP, Vinyl record album

Numero, Late 70s. New Copy
Brilliant early sounds from Jimmy Jam – rare late 70s material that has a very different sound than his slicker 80s work with Terry Lewis!
