Philly Sound Get Down – Philly Funk Instrumentals

A fine compilation of instrumental singles from funk era Philly! The set features gritty soul and funk instrumentals, mostly from the tail end of the 60s – those halcyon days of regional hit singles and funky 45s – when tracks by relative unknowns and local favorites might find a little bit of elbow room on regional singles charts next to the established vets on major labels! The tracklist includes a handful of variations on tunes that went on to be funk classics, but it's mostly made of names and titles that are fresh to our ears. It's a sound that manages to be both identifiably Philly, yet universally funky! 25 tracks in all: "Funky Chicken" by Fabulous Emotions, "Elephant Part 2" by Philly Four, "Sissy Walk" and "It's Our Thing" by Freedom Now Brothers, "Funky Fox" by Bob Marshall & AC's, "Butter That Popcorn" by RDM Band, "Hitch It To The Mule", "Come Out Smokin" and more by Panic Buttons, "Soul For Sale" by Soul Rockers, "Philly Soul Strut" by Radars, "Nice & Slow Part 2" by Norma & The Headaches, "Donna" by Psychodelic Frankie and more!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
