Tristeza On Piano

LP (Item 367611) MPS, 1970 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
A wonderful set of laidback tracks from Peterson – featuring a good mix of tunes from Brazilian sources, soundtracks, and a few nice 60s pop numbers. The group here features Sam Jones on bass and Bob Durham on drums – and while the album might have sparkled a bit more with some added arrangements – Peterson's in an expansive mode that makes the spare trio setting still groove with enough of a flair to keep our ears interested. Titles include "Tristeza", "Nightingale", "Triste", "Watch What Happens", "Down Here On The Ground", and "Fly Me To The Moon".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Recital By Oscar Peterson
Clef, 1952/1954. Near Mint-
A great early example of the genius of mixing guitar with the piano of Oscar Peterson – a move that might have been inspired by the success of Ahmad Jamal, but which works equally well for Peterson's sound on the keys! An unusual live date for Oscar Peterson – in that it wasn't actually officially recorded by Verve, but done by a fan and handed over to Norman Granz at a later date!
