For some reason, we find that we like the Richie Havens albums on Douglas the best – possibly because they're reputedly earlier sides augmented a bit with some trippy post-Woodstock arrangements that made them a better sell for the 70s. Richie's core vocals and guitar sound great – very earthy and moody – and the larger arrangements have some nice flute bits that bring out a trippy sound on the record. Titles include "Oxford Town", "My Own Way", "I'm A Stranger Here", "Boots & Spanish Leather", and "Shadow Town".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album
