Hairspray – Original Soundtrack

LP (Item 33333) MCA, 1988 — Condition: Near Mint-
One of the greatest soul compilations ever! Sure, it's the soundtrack to the goofy John Waters' film Hairspray – but it's also a killer batch of soul tracks that were suprisingly well selected, and which have hardly ever been reissued elsewhere! Titles include "The Bug" by Jerry Dallman & The Knights, "The Roach" by Gene & Wendell, "You'll Lose A Good Thing" by Barbara Lynn, "Mama Didn't Lie" by Jan Bradley, "Town Without Pity" by Gene Pitney, "Nothing Takes The Place Of You" by Toussaint McCall, "I'm Blue (Gong Gong Song)" by The Ikettes, and "The Madison Time" by Ray Bryant Combo!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Blue Collar – Original Soundtrack
MCA, 1978. Near Mint-
Some choice soundtrack work from Jack Nitzsche's prime 70s period, with a handful other tracks by Howlin' Wolf, Captain Beefhaeart and Ike & Tina Turner. For the most part the soundtrack is bluesy rootsy stuff, to go along with the slant of the film, but there is a great funky break on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

The soundtrack for one of the most popular John Hughes films of the 80s, and the soundtrack for a generation as well – a mix of songs that were partly pulled from other sources, but which went on to make the idea of a compilation soundtrack every bit as important as a full original film score! ... Henry Mancini

Gunn . . . Number One!
RCA, 1968. Very Good
Nice 60s crime jazz from Mancini! Although Mancini's fame was made in the late 50s for his work on the classic Peter Gunn TV show, it's less known that he also did the score for the less-than-successful Peter Gunn film. Directed in 1967 by Blake Edwards, the film was a weak attempt to transfer ... LP, Vinyl record album

Benny Carter/Louis Armstrong/Sammy Davis Jr

Man Called Adam
Reprise, 1966. Very Good-
A nice little soundtrack from the prime years of the Rat Pack – for a film that featured Sammy Davis Jr as a trumpet player! Happy Ending
United Artists, 1969. Near Mint-
A slice of genius from Michel Legrand – one of his brilliant late 60s soundtracks, not as well remembered as, but cut during the same period as The Thomas Crown Affair. The soundtrack is probably best remembered for the incredible theme "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Carlo Rustichelli

Seduced & Abandoned
CAM, 1964. Near Mint-
A great Italian comedy score from the early 60s – put together in key transitional modes by composer Carlo Rustichelli! The music is a great mix of those older, more sentimental Italian styles with some of the cleaner, leaner, playful sounds that were beginning to emerge in the 60s – ... LP, Vinyl record album
