Stunning! This is David Axelrod's rare suite of tracks dedicated to saving the enviroment with a set of jazzy funky grooves! The record's probably his most baroque album ever, with a big group of jazz players that mixes vibes, guitars, and off-kilter reeds – plus a group of singers who perform some of the lyrics of the set, most of which are adapted from the Old Testament and from Navajo legends. The record's broken into two long suites – "The Warnings" and "The Signs" – and the whole thing blends together in a spacey, other-worldly mix of heavy arrangements and trippy grooves!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Auction
Decca, 1972. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
One of David Axelrod's oddest records, but still a darn great one! The whole album is sort of a concept album about slavery (hence the title "The Auction"), and it has some spiritual political vocals on a number of tracks – but underneath is the usual great funky instrumentation of ... Heavy Axe
Fantasy, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
Although he's best known for his albums on Capitol, David Axelrod cut this great record for Fantasy during the mid-70s, and it features Cannonball Adderley producing Axelrod's work (instead of the other way around, as on Cannonball's albums from the time). The tracks here are a bit more jazz funk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chiaroscuro, 1963/1978. New Copy (reissue)
An amazing album – and a really unique slice of the underground of jazz in the 60s! The session was put together in 1963 by Walt Dickerson, and was conceived as an attempt to draw attention to the incredible amount of great jazz players who were then currently serving time in prison for ... For The Good Times
Prestige, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
One of Rusty Bryant's last albums for Prestige – recorded in that more-electric mode that graced the label's albums of the year 1973 – but in a style that's still pretty darn nice! The group's still a small combo – with Rusy on tenor and alto, plus with Hank Jones on electric ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Jazz, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
The Black Jazz recordings of Doug Carn are always a revelation – some of the most powerful, progressive work on the American underground of the early 70s – music that got Carn into way more record collections than you might expect! The sound here is a perfect summation of Doug's early ... LP, Vinyl record album

Very dark stuff from Sun Ra – one of his records that received wider circulation than most of the Saturn releases of the 70s, and a set that maintains a pretty sharp edge overall! The second amazing album from Placebo – a wicked mix of funky fusion styles, and a real standout on the European scene of the early 70s!
