A classic album of short hard funky grooves – put together by the legendary Oliver Sain, a genius instrumentalist/producer from St. Louis, and the man behind more soul classics than you might imagine! Oliver plays alto, organ, and piano on most cuts – and the backing is spare and hard on nearly all the tracks. Some of Sain's later work got a bit weak, but this one's a classic, and has a great 70s funk sound! Titles include "Bus Stop", "Booty Bumpin", "Libra's Dream", "Sporty Mae", and "Laid Back".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Overlooked 70s genius from The Impressions – 2 killer albums back to back on a single CD! Loving Power is later Curtom work from the group – but still plenty darn nice, with a super-dope vocal harmony approach on the best tracks! The title cut is worth the price of admission alone ... CD

Great early work from Billy Ocean – a smooth album of understated groovers, all done in a style that's nicely retrained, and which places a good focus on Billy's great vocals! Most of the record skips along in a warm mellow groove – never too over the top, and in a way that makes us ... CD

Capitol/Big Break (UK), 1983. New Copy
Always-great work from the team of Ashford & Simpson – the kind of a record that has them at the top of their game, even though they'd changed their overall sound over the years! The vibe here is more in an 80s groove mode than some of the duo's Warner albums, but they've still got an ... CD

Perhaps the ultimate album for The Gap Band – and sure, it was a hit, but the record still sounds great today, and the constant sampling of some of the record has kept it fresh in the crates for years and years. The band have lost the heavier funk sound of earlier years, and working in a ... CD

Dave Baby Cortez In Orbit
Roulette/Warner (Japan), 1966. New Copy
Smoking Hammond work from the young Dave Cortez – sounding grittier here than on some of his other albums of the time – less pop, and almost with a soul jazz vibe overall – especially given some of his snakey solos! The record may be the closest that Cortez ever came to sounding ... CD

One of the greatest groups of their generation – and an act who could have flourished strongly in the 60s, had they hung on long enough for the soul years to come! Yet still, The Heartbeats' sound and style have a definite link to the best 60s male groups – and the depth of their work ... CD
