Many Facets Of David Newman

LP (Item 23420) Atlantic, 1969 — Condition: Very Good+
A genius album from David Newman – and a record that follows strongly in the mode of the excellent Bigger & Better set! Newman's playing here with a really far-reaching groove that's miles ahead of his initial work for Atlantic – really stretching out at the end of the 60s, in an array of well-chosen influences. The record features a great little funky remake of Calvin Arnold's classic funky 45 "A Funky Way To Treat Somebody", plus some really beautiful tunes in a Coltrane-esque mode, with arrangements by William Fischer – spinning out in modal and exotic tones that we never would have expected. Titles include "Children Of Abraham" and "Chained No More", and they both feature Newman playing freer than you've ever heard him!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

We love Sonny Fortune – because he always plays so great!
