What can we say? All the best-remembered club tracks by one of the world's most unique soul artists. We're much more partial to these soulful club cuts than his later hi-energy singles, though each side is mixed into a medley, with the first side featuring "Do You Wanna Funk", "Dance (Disco Heat)" and "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", and the second featuring "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight", "Stars Intro", "Can't Stop Dancing" and "Stars".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

I Don't Want To Be Alone, Stranger
Fantasy, 1975. Very Good
Sublime mid 70s work from Johnny Guitar Watson – a Bay Area blend of soulful production, jazzy playing, and bits of bluesy phrasing, with a hard-to-match quality that we'd put in the same camp as work by Shuggie Otis from the time. Johnny's vocals and guitar are amazing – very laidback ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vibes Of Truth
Fantasy, 1975. Very Good Gatefold
A great little album of jazz funk – and the only record we've ever seen by this group! The 3 Pieces may not have lasted long in the record business, but this rare album from 1975 has made them legends on the rare groove scene for years. The record was cut during the height of the jazz funk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Happy Endings
Fantasy, 1975. Very Good
Great stuff by Betty – and light years away from her work at Vee Jay! The album was recorded for Fantasy during their golden year of 1975, and it's a smooth batch of sexy soul tunes with arrangements by Gene Page that are very much in a Barry White mid-70s mode. Betty's lyrical stylings are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joyous
Fantasy, 1977. Very Good
Joyous grooves indeed – the second album by this legendary 70s jazzy soul outfit – and a landmark album in the Fantasy Records Bay Area funk mode! The record will forever be remembered for the cut "Joyous" – a monster groover with a killer hook, strong funky playing, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pickett In The Pocket
RCA, 1974. Very Good+
Harder to find album by The Wicked Pickett, recorded in Muscle Shoals, and released with a cover that has him shooting pool with a bunch of ladies. Not really the gangster stuff the cover might imply, but still some nice modern southern soul. Cuts include "What Good Is a Lie", "I ... LP, Vinyl record album

Landmark stuff, and a beautiful album that mixes soulful tracks with Donny's nascent jazz sensibility! A tight little album of funky soul from Jimmy Bee! A mad mix of Latin and funky rhythms – a 70s classic from the Belgian group Chakachas!
