Jazz Themes From The Wild One

LP (Item 21425) Decca, 1955 — Condition: Very Good+
Classic sides of Hollywood jazz, written for the early Brando biker flick The Wild One! Leith Stevens wrote, arranged, and conducted the material – and the players on the album include Jimmy Giuffre, Bud Shank, Bob Cooper, Shorty Rogers, Shelly Manne, and other likely suspects. The tracks have a stark harsh sound, and are very much in the tradition of scores like Man With The Golden Arm and I Want To Live. Titles include "Beetle", "Blues for Brando", "Chino", and "Hotshoe".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Odessa File
Decca, 1974. Near Mint-
A strange little soundtrack from Andrew Lloyd Webber – written to accompany this action film starring Jon Voight, based on the spy thriller by Frederick Forsythe. Decca, Late 50s. Very Good+
Not actually music with Kim Novak – but a set of musical backdrops by Morris Stoloff – designed as a package for the film Jeanne Eagels! The cover has a great color shot on the front, and smaller images of Kim on the back – and the music is surprisingly dark and moody. LP, Vinyl record album

Franz Waxman

Crime In The Streets
Decca, 1956. Very Good+
Hard to find soundtrack to this early Don Siegel film that starred John Cassavetes, Sal Mineo, and James Whitmore as a bunch of JD's. Roy Budd

Wild Geese
A&M, 1978. Very Good+
Tightly-strung score for this forgotten war flick starring Roger Moore, Richard Burton, and Richard Harris. Budd does a nice job with the orchestra on this one, and most of the themes have a snappy militaristic style, in the vein of The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape. Not as many jazzy ...
